Could this dress work for a March wedding (guest)?

I'm going to a good friend's wedding in early March and need to find a dress. Wishlist includes sleeves (vital), no fussy patterns and not too short (am tall). Currently size 18, losing weight (1st down, hopefully another gone before wedding) so needs to be flattering.

Could this work? I suit that colour (blonde hair, light tan) and am thinking it's sort of Jean Muir-ish (ish ) but is it too dark/eveningy for a wedding?

Am thinking it might work with a great necklace and clutch - any thoughts or alternatives?

PS it's just above the knee on me

What kind of wedding is it?

I would wear it for evening only, or a registry office, but maybe not for a big church wedding at 2pm. It is a lovely dress.

Hmm that's what I was wondering. It's an afternoon ceremony but will be small and pretty relaxed. Could I get away with it do you think?

With really good shoes, jewellery, bag then I think for the wedding you are describing it could work.

Sorry to be blunt- I can see what the dress is trying to do, but I fear it will be very boxy and unflattering on. It's not doing Twiggy any favours. It's more Gene Pitney than Jean Muir IMO.

How about this with tan heels and clutch?

Or are you after a more late 60s/early70s look?

LOVE the idea of going to the wedding as Gene Pitney - genius! I know what you mean though. The dress isn't as sack-y as it looks on Twiggy, it is more fitted but maybe it is boxy.

I love the Phase Eight dress but worry about the jersey clinging too much on my still lumpy bits. But it's a definite contender and may be easier to accessorise than the green anyway.

I'm not really after the 60s/70s vibe, just like clean lines, simple cuts and sleeves! So many sleeveless/too short for me dresses around.

Will keep looking and will try the navy dress fully Spanx'd and see how I go.

I still don't like the M&S dress, but am perhaps less of a twat this evening.

Not sure how Cos sizing comes up, but you would probably like some of their stuff- this or this for example.

Ha ha - no need to apologise, it made me laugh. And now I have a vision of you casting judgement (in a good way) a la Bruno Tolioni, saying 'it was more Gene PITNEY than Jean Muir!!!'

I love Cos but too wee for me at the moment (but come the summer I'll be all over it). Will keep looking but will try the Phase 8 one and maybe also this in the violet.

I'm also a tall 18 and going to a March wedding. I've bought this: fashionfinder.asos.com/womens-Phase-Eight/Phase-Eight-Zoe-Cowl-Neck-Dress-1644411 (for a bargain £35 in the JL sale). It's probably similar in terms of cling etc to the phase eight one linked above. It's quite flattering (I hope). I think as long as you err in the direction of sizing up rather than down, that kind of draped jersey can be really flattering. The violet is nice too .

Now I just need to find suitable shoes/jewellery etc. Eek.

Right - violet dress is beautiful but just a tiny bit too short, as is Phase Eight really. Front runner at the moment is this Damsel in a Dress, nice heavy jersey fabric and I like the side panels, good shape.

Think it could work, agree on tan heels and clutch. Really wish the violet one was about 1.5inches longer and it would be perfect!

Think that damsel in a dress is gorgeous, also love the violet one....is it really toooo short, can't you flash a little knee?
But the damsel one will ba fab and is way better than the m and s I think.

Thing is, I'm super tall so although the dresses look longish they aren't on me. The DiaD is above the knee on me with the violet one higher still. It's OK when I'm standing still and all 'arranged' but as soon as I have a glass of wine walk about it will creep up to mid-thigh which is a bit wrong.

I don't have to return either immediately though so will keep and see how I go nearer the time. Think the same shoes & bag will work with both so that's my next project. Have seen a great Raoul clutch that might be good and I would use loads in the future.
