Orla Kiely bag - Yay or nay?

Birthday imminent, present hints required by DH. love look of Orla K bags in tapestry print (on phone so can't link to her site; sale section) but wondering if they're considered naff now?

Also if you were going to get one and like biggish bags, would it be sad to get the changing bag (have 2yo in nappies still)? Do the baby bags work as day bags or scream 'mummy'?

Nay -- haven't looked a picture but tapestry sounds limiting.

domesticslattern · 25/01/2013 18:58

They are considered naff on MN, yes. Threads gone by. Do a quick search.

therugratref · 25/01/2013 19:02

No the O.K. prints are everywhere and on everything they are just too recognisable and the bag I had about 8 years ago did not wear very well.

Dammit

The problem with that print is if you have dark denim jeans it will transfer onto the bag.

moondog · 25/01/2013 19:18

God no.

polyhymnia · 25/01/2013 19:30

I think they are naff, I'm afraid. Have been done to death. Tapestry version sounds worse, if possible.

needasilverlining · 25/01/2013 19:33

Is not actually tapestry, that's name of print.

But I bow to unanimous jury.

What do I want, then? :-)

I quite like some OK bags, even if the rest of MN doesn't.

LynetteScavo · 25/01/2013 19:46

I like this one

slinkyboo · 25/01/2013 20:00

I love and covet OK bags. I live abroad but whenever I pop back to the UK I see very chic women with them. Get what you like - it will be your bag and no one else's!! Smile

Think Orla Kiely stuff is over and she's overextended by cashing in on putting her designs on everything,

HyvaPaiva · 25/01/2013 20:55

The problem I have with Orla Kiely and designs like the tapestry is that she uses oilcloth/PU/cotton for handbags and charges hundreds: that's not going to last or be worth the hefty price tag. The tapestry bag is cotton with PU and cost around £140, for cotton and PU, I'd buy in New Look or H&M.

However, if you like the prints but want something lasting, her leather bags here are a slightly better buy.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 25/01/2013 20:56

They just all look like nappy changing bags to me.

Winternight · 25/01/2013 21:09

Personally I am so bored of her designs. They are everywhere.

Winternight · 25/01/2013 21:10

I feel like that about cath kidson floral shit too...

tethersend · 25/01/2013 21:19

I think this is lovely.
