Coat for new job in the spring...any advice please

I'm starting a new job at the end of March, I'll be travelling by car mostly. I have no smart coats or jackets, I'm thinking I need a trench or similar to see me all the year round. No idea where to start looking.
Budget is £100, I'm 40, size 10-12 & will be wearing dresses & boots/courts or skirts mainly, sometimes 3/4 length bistro crop type trousers.
Any ideas or pointers?
Thank you.

Zara usually do good coats in your price range, wait until the beginning of March when there will be more spring stock in the shops. Banana Republic do good trench coats.

A trench is certainly a classic, but I remember sitting at the traffic lights one morning on the way to school last spring and we counted over 20 women in trench coats in the time it took for the lights to change!

Hobbs have some in their outlet section that are quite nice, good quality and cheapish. Outlet section, not sale.
