Are bootcut jeans still fashionable?

Hi, I am looking for some new jeans and still haven't managed to shift the baby weight, so skinnies are out. I was just wondering if bootcut jeans are still fashionable, or is there an alternative? Thanks.

I still wear them so probably not!

TotallyEggFlipped · 23/01/2013 06:52

My mum told me they were out. I'm still wearing them.

deXavia · 23/01/2013 06:53

Funnily enough recently I was having a 'fat day' recently and pulled out an old pair on long and lean bootcuts from gap. Blooming marvelous - even if I say so myself! Have been wearing them loads so I don't care if they are or aren't any more Grin

FergusSingsTheBlues · 23/01/2013 06:59

Not hideous, but not fashionable. But skinnies are boring anyway so no great loss if you cant wear them. .... How about a big fat fair of flapping flairs. Ive always loved them. They show a bit of individuality when everybidy else is piled into jeggungs and the like.

MotheringShites · 23/01/2013 07:08

Not keen. I really like Levi's slim leg. Not as unflattering as a skinny and the Demi-Curve option accommodates a proper lady's hips and bum.

Bunbaker · 23/01/2013 07:28

The shops are full of skinnies, straight leg and bootcut so I would just get the style that suits you the most. IMO looking stylish is far better than looking fashionable. Skinnies aren't very flattering on me so I wear straight leg these days, which never seem to go out of fashion.

sphynx · 23/01/2013 07:50

Boyfriend jeans are a good alternative. Gap have a good range.

ithaka · 23/01/2013 07:52

I think bootleg jeans look frumpy - sorry. You are better with either a straight leg or flares - step away from the bootcut.

ggirl · 23/01/2013 07:52

I think they're making a comeback ..have seen them in some fashion mags.
..you heard it here first!...

so you're being ultra trendy actually

Geeklover · 23/01/2013 07:54

They must be coming back. The shops are full of them. I've been struggling to replace my old threadbare and faithful selection of boyfriend jeans.

discorabbit · 23/01/2013 07:57

yes in woman's realm ggirl Wink wear whatever suits you!

i quite like gap 1969 real straight

MidnightMasquerader · 23/01/2013 08:03

There are bootcuts and then there are bootcuts.

Some are absolutely fine - leg-lengthening and slimming and massively flattering. And others that are a one-way ticket to frumpsville and therefore to be avoided.

I had a pair of Long & Leans that I wore until they disintegrated. Fabulous jeans. And another pair from Topshop that were brilliant on me.

Just find the right pair for you - because it is true. Skinnies are not for everyone. ATEOTD, it's better to look Envy in bootcuts than to look Hmm in skinnies.

IsabelleRinging · 23/01/2013 08:03

Bootlegs will always be more flattering, you can wear them longer with a high heel under and they elongate the leg, the slight flare balances out a curvier hip and leg, and they don't make your feet look big when wearing flats or trainers. Fashion dictates right now though that they are 'out' so anyone wearing them looks slightly old fashioned, but they will be back one day.

GColdtimer · 23/01/2013 08:17

See, this is what I think is quite funny about fashion. Loads of people will tell you they are unfashionable and they wiyldn't be seen dead in them but the minute they appear on the fashion pages or a top model is seen in them they will become fashionable again and people on threads like this will be telling everyone to get bootlegs. But they won't be exactly the same, the new bootleg will be tweaked a bit to @bring them up to date". Grin

Catchingmockingbirds · 23/01/2013 08:20

We could all just make them fashionable again, everyone on this thread should tell 10 people each that bootcut are in again - everyone will soon be wearing them.

frazzled74 · 23/01/2013 09:38

Im not chucking out my bootcuts, far more flattering on me than skinnies/jeggings, and i can feel dressed up for a night out with heels and a sparkly top!

ithaka · 23/01/2013 09:41

Bootcuts with a heel and a sparkly top for a night out is a (very) dated look, but that only matters if you care about being fashionable. Otherwise - wear what you like!

noddyholder · 23/01/2013 09:42

Agree jeans sparkly top and heels mumsy!

JeffFaFa · 23/01/2013 09:49

I live in my bootcuts (im trying to make the switch) but they are not at all fashionable, if i look around i see practically nobody under the age of 60 in bootcuts. Yes they are still in the shops but i dont think that means anything, when i was a teen bootcuts were the thing to wear but i remember straight cuts were still sold, these were seen as frumpy mum jeans. I havnt seen boyfriend jeans at all for a while.

ellangirl · 23/01/2013 09:54

I wear boot cuts, but not with boots. Usually chuck them on with converse for grubbing around on the floor with children everyday. Otherwise I wear straight legs because skinnies don't suit my saddlebags shapely thighs...

frazzled74 · 23/01/2013 09:56

Yes it is mumsy but I feel a bit self conscious in skinnies, plus they never seem to stay up properly and feel uncomfortable.I may try some straight leg or boyfriend ones though.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/01/2013 10:00

Agree with wearing whatever style suits you best - I quite like a skinny bootcut or even a cigarette jean.

And sparkly jumper, jeans and heels was my default christmas look Wink

Catchingmockingbirds · 23/01/2013 10:19

My favourite is the skinny high rise jeans, I love them and have about 5 pairs all in different colours. I have the same problem as you Frazzle with the normal skinnies but find the high rise sit nice. I'm stuck wearing maternity jeans at the moment though!

chanie44 · 23/01/2013 10:20

I've seen ladies wearing bootcut jeans and some have looked really nice and not dated at all. I think of they suit your shape and you get a pair that fits really well, they will look fan.

noddyholder · 23/01/2013 10:23

Jeans all about fit i think. I am wearing the dreaded boyfriend ones today which i find hard to make look good in winter
