help me dress for a party

going to a 40th birthday party next weekend.
Have a gorgeous purple/pink print halter neck top but don't know what to wear it with... can you help?
I am about 5.5 and size 10-12

a) jeans and heels, I am not normally a high heels kind of girl, but have seen a few wedges that would look good.

b) black trousers and what kind of shoes??

have checked with the party girl and she reckons lots of people may wear jeans/trousers with party tops so think I will feel ok.

I would wear a knee length flared skirt.

What fit black trousers?

monsoon have gorgeous white wide-legged trousers

hadn't thought about white trousers.... got some white linen ones upstairs but they are from pre-kids don't think they will fit.

yes, would def. wear long jeans if with wedges.

if black trousers they are tight fitting at the top/round the bum and a bit flared kind of boot cut.

Jeans would be my choice with a pink/purple top. At the mo I think black only looks good with black & white or plain colours. Bear in mind this is my personal opinion of what I like to wear.

ive gone off black trousers too. i only wear them occasionally, and with a black top.

you've put me off the black trousers route, which is good - narrowed my options

so, jeans
or skirt? and shoes - have seen some I love that will go really well with jeans so it may sway me to that option

annie -don't actually own any skirts.... think I have a denim one somewhere which doesn't fit! oh and a brightly coloured linen one I wore on hols last year. I am def. more of a jeans girl.

i like them a lot, do you think faded or dark denim with purple pink top? am esp. happy as I am Miss Gap - live in gap clothes... will obviously try them on, are they quite snug round the bum/top?

I think the top would look great with dark blue jeans & wedges.

ok - so got the jeans, thanks anniemac, in dark denim, very nice fit.
wedge shoes I wanted from schuh didn't have my size but have ordered online so they should! be here next week.
Not sure about a belt for the jeans - do i need one?
