Oh, I think I'll wear a scarf on my left shoulder

Good Lord, it's taken so long to log in to mumsnet that the programme's finished now - but I was going to say, what do you think of the 'I'll wear my scarf flat against my left shoulder and down the jacket where it's no use as a scarf and is just a decoration' type look?? As worn by Gloria Huniford on tonight's Let Rip Britain and Jenni Murray (www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007qlvb/presenters/jenni-murray). (Would not make personal sartorial remarks about these ladies, so I'm not making personal comments, just about the Scarf Situation illustrated by them.)

My friend sported that look at her wedding and it worked on her because she is North African and gorgeous - not sure about every day?

dexter73 · 15/01/2013 07:32

That is a really odd look.

Prolificmincepiebreeder · 15/01/2013 08:46

Jenni Murray does it if I remember reading this correctly once due to having a breast removed after breast cancer and not having reconstructive surgery. The scarf detracts.

Prolificmincepiebreeder · 15/01/2013 08:47

I agree it is an odd clothes horse look

BillStickersIsInnocent · 15/01/2013 10:15

I went to a Woman's Hour recording over 10 years ago and Jenni Murray was wearing her scarf that way. I thought she looked quite glam and elegant.

It's a Hampstead Bazaar look isn't it?

Pinot · 15/01/2013 11:36

I saw someone wearing it like this on Sharon Horgans excellent programme about marriage.

You'd need wide shoulders like a body builder to stop constant slippage, I would think.

And even then you'd still look a twat, tbh.

(Sorry for Jenni Murray if that's right ^ )

madoldbird · 15/01/2013 11:47

Yes, Jenni Murray prefers this look following breast surgery many years ago. Some may consider it "odd" or, in ithers words makes her look a twat), but if it gives her confidence in the public eye, then good for her, and lets hope not all of the public are quite so critical.

Sariska · 15/01/2013 13:38

Hmm, it's periodically fashionable to wear a dupatta (long scarf that forms part of a shalwar kameez or similar) in that way. At least, I have done so (at weddings) and have seen several other women doing so as well.

No more or less useless than a necklace, surely?

Naoko · 15/01/2013 13:45

I might wear a scarf like that if it's a pretty decorative one, that I'm wearing as an accessory like I might wear jewellery. If I'm actually cold, I wear a heavier scarf and wrap it for warmth.

PervCat · 24/10/2013 12:32

WHY does jenny murray do that? Just saw a pic of her talking about Cher - and its a really odd look
kind of like i often have a tea towel

DoYourKegels · 24/10/2013 12:45

Oi! Stop slagging off Jenni Murray!Grin The woman is a fucking legend and I don't care how she dresses.

PervCat · 24/10/2013 12:46

i wonder how she adheres it to her dress

dexter73 · 24/10/2013 12:49

I would use a stapler.

dexter73 · 24/10/2013 12:51

Mind you I can cook a roast lunch with a tea towel perched on my shoulder and it never falls off.

PervCat · 24/10/2013 13:16

She is a fan of silky I think thoigh
