Hairdresser recommendations in Nottingham/Derby area

I have been going to Keith Halls in Long Eaton on and off for seval years, with the odd visit to a couple of other places here and there. Have reached another point where I want to try somewhere new as my highlights are looking a bit average and I dont feel as though they look as good as they good.

Any recommendations for a hairdresser in the Nottingham/Derby/Long Eaton area for full head highlights with cut and blow dry? Dont mind paying £££ for someone good!

Definitely try Blues in Castle Donington, ask for Emma, Julie or Mark - they are all brilliant. It's an Aveda salon, so quite spendy but worth it.

Have also had a nice cut at Aveda in Derby with Nicole although she may have moved to the Nottingham shop now.

NellVarnish · 11/01/2013 23:09

Btw did you get your rainy day mac?

PeazlyPops · 11/01/2013 23:37

Nottingham Aveda is fab, as long as you avoid the master stylist, he is terrible. He messed up a very straightforward cut, and was an arse about it when I pointed it out.

I saw another stylist (Harriet maybe?) the next day who put it right, and the receptionist said he gets a lot of complaints. Maybe he feels that the straightforward cuts are a little beneath him!

Got the mac but don't like it!! Colour (dark fawn) is more kharki than brown toned & fabrics a bit funny - thought it would be softer

Oh that's a bugger. Did you manage to sort out a hair appointment?

I love the pebbly floor in Aveda in Nottingham!

Could try Sally Montegue in Derby. Ask for Alice - she's fab, used to be at KH on Sadler Gate but has moved!

Would recommend Emma at Real in west bridgford

I go to a guy called Charlie Bardwell in Nottingham. He's just lovely - only him in the salon, so he washes, cuts and colours it himself, without any faffing around with juniors washing your hair and asking if you are going on holiday. I have mine cut and highlighted every 8 weeks and it's £70 a go. I've paid far more in town before (over £120) and it was never worth it. With him I get a really personal service and am treated as an individual (and also get ace magazines and wine!)
Hope this helps

i've put up a similar request, sorry i hadn't seen your post Derbynotts I live near long eaton, and to date i have tried Sutherland n barnett (no good!) sally montague - fine, francesco in derby(no- old lady style) Someone suggested sassoons in nottingham - has anyone been there?

DerbyNottsLeicsNightNanny · 13/01/2013 14:45

Hi, lifeittooshort. Let me know if you find & book somewhere, I am tempted by the Aveda salon someone mentioned in Castle Donington but its so hard to know where to go! Keith Halls Long Eaton is always OK but only OK if you know what I mean?! I want to come out after spending that much money LOVING my hair for at least a few weeks but generally dont feel this way. I have tried Aveda Nottingham and Derby and found both to be hit & miss, I did quite like some of the colours they used though which is why I may try the Donington one.

Hi Derbynotts i went to aveda in derby - it was ok - i didn't leave the salon thinking "this is it"!! Someone mentioned Real in west bridgeford - i've seen them mentioned before - i might do and look - also charlie bardwells - i thing i"ll do a list and check them out. I may try sassoons in nottm - expensive but i might treat myself Lets swop notes :)

lifeistooshorttodrinkcheapwine · 15/01/2013 11:20

On my "googling travels" i keep coming across 2 hairdressers Charlie Bardwell in Nottingham and Matthew Wyman on maid marian way - both seem to be well established and good reputations -Has anyone heard of them?
Has anyone got anymore suggestions?

DerbyNottsLeicsNightNanny · 16/01/2013 17:14

I'm tempted to try James White in Nottingham. He is an award winning wedding hair stylist & obviously thats his speciality but he does colours too so am thinking he might be OK?! Still undecided though!

ooh, ive not heard of him DerbyNotts but i've just looked him up - he could be good. is he a good cutter?

DerbyNottsLeicsNightNanny · 16/01/2013 21:11

dont know thats the prob, I know he's amazing at wedding hair etc but not sure about other stuff. I need to find a colour specialist who can also cut well!

I'm going to make a big effort to ask people who's hair i like where they go to.

loveyoutothemoonandback · 16/01/2013 22:47

Wasn't impressed with Aveda, booked the male style director (I think) and he wasn't brill, didn't seem too bothered about making my hair suit me, and because I was the only on in the salon, there were about 5 women all standing round behind me chatting - and noone offered me a cuppa! Not been back since...

loveyoutothemoonandback · 16/01/2013 22:51

PS - my Aveda comments above are about the Nottingham salon. I do like Antony Holland at Zullo and Holland in Nottingham. Great other tips for Nottingham too, thanks, I think I will try Charlie Bardwell.

Does anyone else think that - if you're not stunningly pretty/well groomed, some stylists just can't be arsed to make much effort with your hair and don't seem too bothered about making you feel good about your hair, and therefore yourself? Or am I asking too much of them? No, I'm not, what's wrong with wanting someone with experience give you some advice on what will suit you? I just feel that lots of the hairdressers I've been to just aren't bothered cos I'm not v glam or beautiful, sob Hmm

lifeistooshorttodrinkcheapwine · 17/01/2013 12:36

Loveyouto I went to Zullo and holland for a consultation ages ago and even though i told him i didn't like my hair too short on the top he suggested i had it shorter on top!! it wasn't with Antonio, it was with the other man.

What you said about not being bothered with you at aveda nottm and no-one else in there tell you something - if i look into a hair salon and theres no-one there i don't go in cause they can't get the customers.

If they're are a really good hairdresser it shouldn't matter who you are, how old, or what you look like. I'm sure you're lovely really - don't let these idiots calling themselves hairdressers get you down :)

mrsblakey · 27/04/2013 19:30

Hi did anyone try Charlie Bardwell ?
Am thinking of trying him out & would appreciate some feedback please

Sajti · 22/07/2017 12:51
