Best oil control foundation that doesn't look like chalk ?

My skin is so oily, nothing lasts for more than a few hours, I don't suffer with breakouts just incredibly shiney t-zone. What works for you? PS I cannot contemplate going out that is just wrong (in my opinion)!

Very very thin layer of milk of magnesia. Then let try and apply foundation over the top.

Sounds like madness. Total works. No oil. No breakouts. Miracle trick!!!

QuinnFabray · 11/01/2013 21:30

After years of trial and error, here are few things that work for me (up to a point).

MAC spf 50 prep and prime is a really good primer for making foundation stick. Nothing else I've tried has ever come close.

Urban Decay de-slick setting spray, sprayed before and after foundation also helps. I tend to save this for nights out.

Foundations that stay longer than most: Estee Lauder Double wear, only when applied lightly with fingers, otherwise it's cakey and heavy. Revlon Colorstay, applied the same way. Givenchy Eclat Matissime, Stila stay all day, Giorgio Armani Maestro,Diorskin Nude isn't bad at staying put, with the primer, and actually my favourite is Revlon Colorstay whipped creme - The lasting power is the best of all of the above, and it looks very natural. Unfortunately it's not available in this country and I have to buy it on eBay, but it's not too expensive and it actually works.

I generally powder and blot my face a couple of times during the day too.

flowwithit · 11/01/2013 21:30

Have you tried estee lauder double wear light?

ggirl · 11/01/2013 21:33

I always follow Quinn on these threads

I am currently in love with YSL tient eclat foundation ..stays put on my combo skin and looks very natural.

QuinnFabray · 11/01/2013 21:37

Hey ggirl. I actually just tried a sample of the YSL on your recommendation. Loved it the first day. Not so sure on the second day. Not convinced of the staying power ( on me ). Need to play with it some more. Also not sure I like the look of me "lit from within". It's a lovely foundation. Just not sure it's for me yet.

I'm currently waiting for Urban Decay's Naked Skin foundation, which is supposed to have good longevity. God, I love foundation.

ggirl · 11/01/2013 21:41

we are foundation whores

lol @ lit from within..I am angelic so it suits me

QuinnFabray · 11/01/2013 21:48

Haha! I'm on a mission! I remember when I started wearing make up, everything just slid off my face, and it felt pretty hopeless. There is stuff out there that works, all price ranges.

I'm actually going to try the YSL tommorrow without the primer ( security blanket ) and see how that is. Gulp.

Evizza · 11/01/2013 21:49

I have always struggled to find a foundation which didn't make my oily skin shiny but have completely fallen for Garnier BB oil free as it makes my skin look flawless and with no shine all day Smile

SneezySnatcher · 11/01/2013 21:52

Clarins Everlasting is amazing.

flowwithit · 11/01/2013 22:11

I always thought bb cream was too moisturising and so I haven't tried any. I will have a look at the garnier one. I'd love to find an easy everyday solution. Do you know if the mac 50 primer is non comedogenic? I would like to try that in the summer I wonder if the SPF is enough to use for sunbathing because I hate the oily sunscreen.

ggirl · 11/01/2013 22:17

yes the mac 50 is non comedogenic

good luck Quinn I'll be thinking of you ..arf

Chicinwellies · 11/01/2013 22:33

Ooh thanks all x

Hmm thinking of a little eBay purchase for the revlon whipped creme, could you help with colour selection? Dior and Chanel 030, would say warm beige but antiorange x

OP posts:
QuinnFabray · 11/01/2013 22:53

Yes the MAC spf is amazing. Some stuff makes me break out, and this one doesn't at all.

Revlon Whipped Creme. I searched colour swatches online before choosing my shade. I'm about a MAC NC20, Dior 020 or actually 023 in Dior Nude ( it's a peach shade ). I'm using Sand Beige in the whipped creme. It's quite yellow toned. It's one of those foundations that just seems to blend seamlessly into the skin, so exact colour match isn't absolutely vital. Longest wearing, yet still natural looking foundation I've ever tried. I so hope they bring it out in the UK sometime.

HazleNutt · 12/01/2013 09:20

I always recommend trying some face oil to possibly get rid of the shiny t-zone in the first place. Then you can use whatever foundation you like. Dr Hauschka has a special oily skin normalizing oil.

Chicinwellies · 12/01/2013 22:39

Nope the Dr H was a waste of money, tried it for 6 weeks . Milk of m untried but we will see!

OP posts:
QuinnFabray · 12/01/2013 23:20

Milk of M doesn't work for me. I use the Clarins lotus facial oil for oily skin ( at night ) and it is very nice and doesn't make me oilier, but no skincare regime I've tried has helped makeup stay on longer, by itself. My skin is greatly improved, for sure, but add foundation into the mix, and it makes no difference.

StinkyWicket · 13/01/2013 01:00

MOM doesn't work for me either. Never dried properly and just felt weird.

I was thinking of trying Urban Decay De-Slick. I've never really used a primer before, as any samples and testers have never really done much.

Actually, I tell a lie. I have had Revlon Photoready primer and I own Benefit Dr Feelgood which I sometimes use as a primer. I'm experimenting with it right now to see if it stops the shinies!

QuinnFabray · 13/01/2013 09:11

I quite like UD De-slick, I think it does help. Apparently the All-Nighter is supposed to be better, so going to try that next. Actually, the best thing I've tried is spraying my face with hair spray, which I know is probably really bad. I've only done it on nights out, or when I went to a wedding, but the makeup did stay perfect all day.

Neena28 · 13/01/2013 16:58

Yep I prefer all nighter to de slick. m of m works for me tho. I also find in the summer a zinc based sunscreen helps me.

ggirl · 13/01/2013 17:37

quinn you spray your face with hairspray??? I am amazed , will need to try this. Isn't it all sticky?

QuinnFabray · 13/01/2013 21:36

Nope, not sticky. Just a quick light mist. Looks more natural and undetectable than the Urban Decay sprays. I'm sure it's terrible for my skin, but I guess it's going over a shed load of makeup, and not directly on to my skin, so not so bad once in a while. Not so different than using it every day on hair really??
