MrsCampbellBlack · 10/01/2013 16:38

But have noticed lots of the teachers at dc's school have gel manicures

beckhamz · 10/01/2013 16:40

I think extensions are rough, aren't they? But shellac is probably okay.

I think a full on WAG-tastic style long french manicure nail extensions might be a bit rough, although I like a short squoval french manicure

TheBOF · 10/01/2013 16:44

I get gel nails done once a month or so at my local one (it is run by a vietnamese family actually, I didn't know that was a 'thing') for a tenner. The young man who lightly holds my hands makes me feel oddly cherished, mbut never makes eye contact. It is the nearest thing to being in a Jane Austen novel you can get, rough or not.

teacher123 · 10/01/2013 16:45

I love shellac-virtually indestructible and lasts 3 weeks, I like having French manicure but on quite short nails and not bright white so it's not too obvious. My mum thinks that manicures are common. But she also won't watch Downton Abbey as it is on ITV, so I tend to take much of what she says with a a pinch of salt...!

MaureenShit · 10/01/2013 16:48

you see for me watching ITV way outleagues nails in the common status ;)

MaureenShit · 10/01/2013 16:50

i also like quite trashy fluoro colours on my short nails

I am like a Venn Diagram of nails

But but...Downton Abbey is on ITV.

MaureenShit · 10/01/2013 16:53

Doesn't shellac ruin the nail underneath?

I don't mind doing my nails myself unless I'm going somewhere special and then I get them done. Oddly enough ours is a little Vietnamese place, small room in mall, no eye contact, no chat, face masks (them), brutal but spot on shaping - £6.50.

TheBOF · 10/01/2013 19:37

Apparently not, DeafLeopard. Although acrylics are notorious for wrecking your nails.

I have a manicure/pedicure when I am at the hairdresser.

TheBOF · 10/01/2013 19:44

Pedicures at the hairdresser's?

OohMrDarcy · 10/01/2013 19:49

I get gel nails done occasionally gelerations (like shellac, but by jessica) I love them but can't afford to go every 3 weeks which is a BIG shame

They haven't cause me any problems with my nails except for the time I peeled them off instead of soaking!

Arisbottle · 10/01/2013 19:49

I get my nails done, I do hope it is common.

TheBOF · 10/01/2013 20:13

I think they're the ones I've tried, Darcy. I've only been a couple of times actually, but I'd definitely get them done for an event/night out etc, and I like that they last so long.

MrsCampbellBlack · 10/01/2013 20:25

I don't like the fact that you can see where your nail is growing when I had gel nails done.

But if I could get them done for £10 I'd live with it.

TheBrideofMucky · 10/01/2013 20:27

We DIY darling. Grin

I don't even like French manicures now, it's all over. Just neat and painted will do me.

InNeedOfBrandy · 10/01/2013 20:30

Envy can't have mine done because of work

they used to always be done Envy

I have to be satisfied with painting my toe nails instead/.

suntodayplease · 10/01/2013 20:36

I get mine done (bio gel type thing) every 3 weeks, my nails don't grow that fast thankfully. Only ever have short square nails, usually dark classic colours.

Salon is not chavvy, but not in best area either. I like the girls who work there and the gossip magazines

I figure I used to spend a lot more on nights out and fags pre DD so this is my one treat.

ggirl · 10/01/2013 20:44

Yes it's rough , on a par with frosted lippy and yellow barmaid hair

monkeysmama · 10/01/2013 20:45

I have gel over my natural nails and get them in filled every two weeks. Costs £13 at local Vietnamese place. I have them painted dark red or sometimes natural French. Have to take my own if I want Essie / Jessica / OPI.
