Help! Christening dress needed for me - and post baby tum!

DC getting christened in a few weeks and I need to get a dress or outfit. Normally a size 16 but annoyingly seem to have a great flabby pooch that is pushing me into size 18. Don't want to spend a fortune as planning on shifting baby weight when I stop BFing.

Any ideas?

Have you tried Dorothy Perkins? They have a good selection of affordable dresses. I always wear Spanx or similar shape wear underneath.

Will have a nosey online thanks :)

Yes dotty p's do some gorgeous maxi style dresses in summer ( good for hiding tums) they might have some in now?

Could you get away with wearing skinny type trousers, a floaty floral top and a blazer? With high heels? How formal is the do?

Also, coast have some great bargains in the sale. Might be worth a look?

And I'm a big lover of Next for feminine pieces.

This dress would be v. flattering, could wear with tan accessories and colourful clutch.

tethersend · 07/01/2013 18:13

this too, although very different style.

How dressy is the Christening?

What's your usual style?

What do you look like?

What's your budget?

Pink

Red

Green

Thanks so much ladies these are great! I especially like the blue Phase 8 one and the green ASOS so thanks tether! Also had a look at DP website and there's a nice birdprint dress. They are all quite high at the neck and I should have said but I'm breastfeeding so if anyone knows any slightly more accessible ones I'd love suggestions.

I also can't walk in heels to save my life unless they are chunky and don't want mega high heels as DH is only a couple of inches taller than me! :)

As for budget I am willing to spend up to £80-100 as I will need a decent dress for some work related stuff in the coming months so would be good to have one I can wear with a jacket for christening or to a publishing launch event type thing. The christening is in an 'anything goes' clotheswise church. My usual style is mostly a mess! Or jeans and a top or a dress with grey or black knee boots. I'm really not into clothes at all tbh Blush but I know I'm going to need something nice to wear while I shift the tum!

If you have a Debenhams near you - you could book an appointment to see a personal shopper. I did this when my DD was 8 weeks old - (she came too as well as my friend).

I'd never done it before but I needed something for DD's christening & really couldn't face trawling the shops to find something. It was great, I tried on several dresses & found the perfect dress.

I even managed to buy all the accessories to go with it too.

It doesn't cost anything to do it and is a hassle free way of shopping with a little one.

MathairMahoney · 07/01/2013 22:35

Oh they are gorgeous tether - love the first one but unfortunately they only have a size 6 :( The Debenhams idea is great TestDuck but even the big one a few towns away is pretty crap and small. Might give it a go.
