New job - what do I wear?

I've worked in uniform for the last 10 years so I've got no work clothes at all. Just got a new job where I'll be wearing my own clothes, I've got nothing suitable so plan to do some shopping in the sales, but I've got no idea where to start!
I won't need to be suited and booted, the people who interviewed me were wearing long flowy skirt type outfits (not my style at all). Not sure what I should wear instead though that would be appropriate.
Could anyone give me some ideas?

Tea dresses and boots?
Cigarette trousers and ballet shoes?
Pencil skirt and little cardigan?

It would help to know roughly what sort of job.

Ooh replies - the job is partly office based, partly working with patients, I'm thinking the clothes would be similar to what a social worker or health visitor would wear.
Cigarette trousers - could you link please? I'm very attached to my jeggings in a multitude of colours, a smarter version would work well I think.

I'm still looking for perfect cigarette trousers! Gap sometimes have them but I am in an absolutely hating Gap phase which doesn't seem likely to end soon. Will have a look.
