To think I could get a little fitter by playing the children's Just Dance game?

DH says I'm being silly and that I need to get to the gym, but with two young children, working, college and the fact that he works away during the week I'm not sure when I'm supposed to go!

I LOVE playing Just Dance with the DCs but I wondered if I really am being totally ridiculous in thinking that prancing around to half a dozen songs every night when they are in bed may help me get a little bit fitter? And it's fun!

Gawd I'm sorry I thought I was in AIBU! I'm very embarrassed now! Blush

Well I go to the gym and do a 5k run at least once a week and yesterday I played Just Dance with the kids and was done in after two dances! Any activity you can fit in is better than nothing!

All activity burns calories and stretches muscles. Of course you will get fitter but you're unlikely to reach optimum fitness with one DVD but I'm guessing you're not trying to be Jess Ennis anyway Grin

JustAHolyFool · 05/01/2013 13:19

It's not going to get you super-fit, but it is a good workout.

trixymalixy · 05/01/2013 13:20

YANBU, you can work up quite a sweat playing Just Dance!

OwlCatMouse · 05/01/2013 13:21

Try Zumba as well?

YANBU. I was v thin when I.went clubbing all the time. Dancing is great exercise!

I go to the gym three times a week and a personal trainer two of those visits who half kills me.... And I was knackered after a few dances on just dance!

WifeofPie · 05/01/2013 14:05

Go for it. I'm a hardcore runner but Just Dance kicks my butt Smile. I don't know which version you have but Just Dance 4 has a 'Just Sweat' option for every song which is more like an intense aerobics class...it's really fun!

IShallWearMidnight · 05/01/2013 14:08

Just Dance 3 has a sweat option (DD2 uses it as part of her medical treatment - Dr suggested brisk walking, DD offered Just Dance instead as it was indoors in the dry Wink), and from what i've seen, it's pretty intensive if you really go for it. If like me you just move the controller to get the points, it's not Grin.

Lizzylou · 05/01/2013 14:15

I got Just Dance 4 for Christmas and loved it sooo much I ordered Just Dance 3 Grin

I find Just Dance 3 makes my bingo wings flap to great effect.

DeafLeopard · 05/01/2013 14:31

S&B prob more appropriate than AIBU - but yes agree Just Dance can be a sweaty workout if you go for it. An hours dancing would burn off a fair few calories.

OddBoots · 05/01/2013 14:33

I've bought it just for that reason (I am too rubbish to do the adult one) so I hope so.

Kirk1 · 05/01/2013 14:38

I do it. I have friend who really needs to lose weight for an operation but I can't get her to go at a class with me. We started out using the PS2 with dance mats and the "Jungle Book Dance Groove Party" game (because the adult game was too much challenge for us Blush) and moved on to the Star Wars kinect game. It is working for both of us, you can pick your time, it costs nothing and it forces me to clear the living room floor at least once a week! She has lost weight (surgeon is apparently very pleased with her) and I am not ballooning so I assume it's giving me that extra boost. Plus, only each other and my toddler see us dancing so we aren't self conscious about it. Win!

Have just done three songs on Just Dance 3 and I am bloody knackered. Gets the heart rate going anyway! :)
