Black tie with a hint of blue

I'm attending a dinner with this dress code. I'll be one of the older guests (it's for a younger relative) - I'm mid-30s. There will be a lot of standing around at the beginning somewhere that isn't terribly warm.
I have a great black dress. I was wondering - and this could be an atrocious idea, of getting hold of a blue leather jacket. And accessorising the dress with some blue vintage jewellery. But I can't quite find the jacket - and the idea may be dreadful and muttony anyway.
Any ideas for the jacket? If the idea is terrible - any alternatives? I only want to buy a blue dress if it's marvellous. I could of course just go for a blue cardi - or a boa - but feel like having a bit more fun.
Many thanks!

A blue leather jacket at a black tie event sounds hideous. I would go for fabulous blue shoes and some vintage jewellery.
