Please help me dress - I'm literally allergic to my clothes!

I'm going to a wedding in Spain at the end of May and need to sort out what I'll wear. It's not so much choosing an outfit that is my problem, as what to do about tights. I won't wear a dress or skirt without tights but I'm allergic to nylon, and to other synthetics to various degrees. I've got away with wearing tights for a few hours at a time here in England, but I'm afraid that in Spain I'll be hotter and sweatier, and will probably be wearign them all day, and so be more likely to have a reaction.

Are there any alternatives to synthetic tights? Do silk tights still exist - and would they break the bank?

Will you need to wear tights? It will be warm so it might be nice to go without tights.

you can buy silk tights or stockings from mytights.com

i think they're around £12

Thanks for those urls. Had a hunt on both of them, but can only find silk stockings, not silk tights.

The reason I need tights (and also not stockings) is that I am a woman of generous proportions, and find that my thighs chafe and stick together most uncomfortably if I don't wear tights with a dress or skirt - particularly in warmer weather.

So the hunt goes on.

Have you tried Fogal or Wolford? I seem to remember that years ago Fogal did silk tights/

Good Luck!

Is cotton an alternative? \link{http://www.spiritofnature.co.uk/acatalog/sect1300.html\here}
or \link[http://www.tightsplease.co.uk/epages/tightsplease.storefront/444791ab0083b39c273f0a02040105d8/Product/View/JAWLSK?Template=PR,06_products\these} have a very low nylon content.

Argh - the price! But that's what happens when you identify an unfilled niche in the market.

Thanks CountessD - if I can't find silk tights, then I'll go for these. And fake tan!

I wonder whether fishnets would work on me - less surface area in contact with my skin, but still something between my thighs?

Blush I could have phrased that better.

how about cutting up a cheap silk scarf and using gaffer tape or similar to attach to thighs

(have to hope you don't get run over so docs see this though Wink)

How about \link{http://www.silky.co.uk/store/erol.html#1014x0&&http%3A%252F%252Fwww.google.co.uk%252Fsearch%3Fhl%3Den%26q%3D%2522comfort+shorts%2522%26btnG%3DGoogle+Search%26meta%3Dcr%253DcountryUK%257CcountryGB\these}(scroll down to 'comfort shorts', bottom left)? Doesn't spell it out, but implies they're mostly cotton with a bit of lycra.

MrsBadger · 20/04/2006 15:53

I think a \link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PLUS-WHITE-ANTI-STATIC-CULOTTE-PETTIPANT-SLIP_W0QQitemZ9310248110QQcategoryZ11532QQssPageNameZWD2VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem\culotte slip} would solve all your problems - not that particular one, obviously, because it's nylon, but a dressmaker could run up something similar in lightweight silk very easily

PrettyCandles · 20/04/2006 23:21

Dead sexy!

This wedding is going to be our first trip away as a couple since having children - what with culotte slips and Luvees, I'm going to have seriously Bridget Jones feelings!

Maybe I should wear silk stockings with a culotte slip/pair of Luvees! Grin
