Winter wedding outfit - sales?

My SIL got engaged last week, they've been together a while so won't be waiting too long to get married. They intend to have the wedding in winter 2013. My DDs christening is in May.

I'd really like a beautiful dress with matching coat, I'm thinking I could wear the dress in May and then the coat as well for the wedding. As its winter wear I thought I might get away with finding something in the sales. Budget is £300 or less for the complete outfit (including shoes & bag).

Any ideas?! Thank you :)

That sounds doable!

Need some more info though really. Age. Height. Dress and shoe sizes. Colouring. body shape. Which colours do you like? Is pattern OK? Preferred heel height, all that jazz.

Highlighted blonde hair, 5' 2", petite build, about a dress size 6 or 8. Straight up and down, no curves usually but have a bit of cleavage as I'm breast feeding! Heel height - not too high as I will be carrying baby, I like kitten heels but can go a bit higher.

Both the Anoushka G dresses are very pretty indeed, I think I prefer yhe grey myself. But, how old are you OP? I fear there's quite a risk of accidentally 'aging up' and looking up looking all 'mother of the bride'. Dunno.

Pink - this with matching jacket. Obviously it'd be a good bit longer on you. Plenty of budget left for pretty jewelery, fab shoes and a bag...

I'm 34 with 4 children, but don't look my age (or so I'm told). Feel like a haggard old witch!! I see what you mean about mother of the bride - a lot of the coat dresses are aimed at that age group, especially Jacques Vert

The Mango dress is a bit bland I think. I'm quite olive-y in skin tone so might look washed out. Worth trying on to see, thank you for the link.

I've forgotten who I am, and only know how to dress myself in a breast feeding top and jeans... Short, pretty dresses are scary. Somehow it seems easier to dress older.

We're the same age and our age age your size there's not much you cna't / shouldn't wear. Can I please help you look for a fabulous outfit that isn't aimed at 50 somethings?

What sort of style did you go for before the dreaded BF top and jeans era? I'm going to chuck an eclectic mix of links at you to get an idea if that's OK. In fact I shall do it anyway Grin

I don't think I've ever had a style per se. I've always been very self conscious with low esteem so tend to hide away. But I love the shape of classic 50s dresses, Audrey Hepburn eyes. I always, always wear eyeliner!

I like the way Kate Middleton has dressed at weddings - matching coat & dress. I'm always freezing cold so to be comfortable at the wedding thought a proper dress coat would be a good way to dress up without spending the whole time shivering.

I like the sound of eclectic links :)

Kate dresses as if she's in her 40's, bless her. I think it's probably required! Not a good look for the non-duchesses amongst us.

Soooo, you like a bit of a vintage look. Grand. thta's my favourite subject, 'fraid things are hectic at home this evening so you'd already replied by the time I got to have a rummage. Got over a bit over excited about the vintage bit and have to go again [hhm]

You being a chilly type makes things easier TBH. Much more chance of finding something for both events.

So, hows about:

utterly fab in either colour

Considering how slim you are you may well be able to get a vintage piece is not anywhere near as pricy as you might fear.

I normally wear tights with leggings under my jeans. Then vest top, t shirt, cardi, fleece and coat in the winter. With hat gloves and scarf. Actually, I always wear a scarf... When it snowed really hard, I walked down to the shops and almost froze - the children counted the number of clothes I was wearing when I got in. There were 19 items Blush no hope for me being warm in occasion wear!!

I think that first dress would take an extra petticoat (it has a wee one built in), they're very warm! here is a good place to start. You could get 2 pairs of thermal tights, thermal shorts, thermal pants and a long sleeved thermal vest under it no probs.

Have you had your thyroid function tested? Iron levels? Must be horrid to be constantly frozen Sad

Would need a simple black (patent?) bag too but they're all over the place.

Assuming you'll keep the bolero on the whole time you should be able to get away with a couple of long sleeved thermal vests under the dress, I'm sure I've seen some with poppers under the fanjo. Bet they'd be well snugly.

Looks like I'm on my way to not dressing too old tethers :)

The dress is lovely, almost like a dressed up 50s style iykwim. I think the freezing cold bridesmaids will have faux fur stoles, so staying away from them. I do love the ornate bolero though. It's different without being OTT & attention seeking.

I will overhaul my wardrobe when I'm done breast feeding I think. I need to find 'me', my style. Not just jeans and t shirts!
