I want to buy a quality Trench coat- where to get?

Hi there

I am 'trying' to start and stick to a classic wardrobe. As part of this I'd like to get a good quality trench coat that will last.

However, don't know what brand to get etc. Does paying more mean better quality? Basically I need any advice I can get but specifically:
Is navy or beige best?
Are Acquascutum worth the investment? I saw the 'Lana' in the sale but no nothing about this coat
Can you recommend a good brand?

I have never spent more than £100 on a coat before but will treat this purchase as my only big item for the year. So I can spend un to £350.

Thanks for your help in advance

My rule of thumb is buy the best you can afford, I do find that better quality clothes have a nicer cut, better fabric and seem to pass the test of time.

The aquascutum coat looks nice, I got myself a Hobbs mac in the sale last year, I think for about £75 and they have a nice range in the sale

if you're anywhere near London, why not pay this place a visit? I've never been, but I can vouch for the quality of Burberry over anything else - the cut is better than Aquascutum. They've gone a bit over the top with their fashion side, but their classic trenchcoats are the best. I'm pretty sure that link is legit - ie not fake.

Jigsaw do lovely trench coats. I have a beautiful black one which I wear often, has quirky detailing and a gorgeous lining. Usually between £150-£200ish

Thanks for tips. Will check out jigsaw, Burberry etc.

I wish I was close to some outlet places/London but am miles away Hmm

Am hoping Lewis' might offer some deals!

I have an Aigle trench coat which has classic looks, but also is waterproof, windproof, breathable and seam sealed.

I've just seen some v nice black trench coats on the Outnet site, worth looking at.
