Bloody hell, I've just bought a 5x magnifying, illuminated mirror

Very reduced in Boots today so I was tempted. I don't think I was ready for the shock of seeing my skin that closely or clearly.

Got a party tomorrow night so looking forward to actually applying make up carefully rather than smearing it in approximately the right area.

Does anyone else have one? Are they good?

I have one and yes they are scary!!

Do not use it for applying foundation, blusher etc,.... but good for mascara i find. But keep flipping back over to the normal mirror to check all is ok.

FiveFestiveFlowers · 20/12/2012 21:15

I have a 10 x one!!

Can you imagine the beard I can see with that?

I spend a lot of time plucking.

emsyj · 20/12/2012 21:48

Don't use it to put makeup on. You will end up looking like Barbara Cartland.

I had one but chucked it to the back of a wardrobe after a fairly short time - they are a Bad Thing and totally unhelpful as they show you a view of yourself that nobody else will ever see, so what's the point? Unless you have a lot of friends who like to examine you under a magnifying glass I would take it back and get a refund tbh. You will just end up picking at spots/lumps/hairs that are only visible due to the magnification.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 20/12/2012 22:00

What, you mean Barbara Cartland is not a good look?? Xmas Shock

Yes, I can feel myself itching to get the tweezers out already...

10 x Five - I'm jealous.

Mine put me off foundation for ever.
you can see everything and what looks ok in normal mirror looks like cakeface in x5 mirror
I only use tinted moisturiser now cos it looks natural in the magnifying part

HousewifefromBethlehem · 20/12/2012 22:08

I had to throw mine away. I ripped my face to SHREDS with all the new found spots I just had to squeeze. It was addictive too....Xmas Blush

iloveeverton · 21/12/2012 13:35

I got one for a present last year, love it always use it to put on my make up.

AgathaHoHoHo · 21/12/2012 14:13

I've got the 10x one too. Tis a baaaad thing.

valiumredhead · 21/12/2012 14:25

God almighty it would be so depressing I'd never leave the bloody house!

Mrsrudolphduvall · 21/12/2012 15:11

I've bought one for dd for Xmas.
I will be keeping well away.

valiumredhead · 21/12/2012 15:15

Yeah let her admire her smooth chin, flawless skin and tiny pores in peace

Mrsrudolphduvall · 21/12/2012 15:29

Oh I don't know valium, she has blackheads and slight acne!
But no lines or wrinkles.

Actually I may use it to see to pluck my eyebrows.

GetOnYourDancingShoes · 21/12/2012 16:20

I've got one of those.

I scared the life out of myself by looking down into it. BAD idea! Xmas Shock

Aquelven · 21/12/2012 17:49

I've got the 10x one too.
When I can, eventually, get it in focus it scares me to death. Sad

menothappy · 21/12/2012 18:26

I once looked at myself in one in boots. I honestly looked like an old crone!!! I actually laughed outloud in the shop.

Cybbo · 21/12/2012 18:34

I only get mine out on high days and holidays

And my magnifying mirror

auldspinster · 22/12/2012 15:08

Don't use it to pluck your eyebrows as you'll over pluck em.

cazza40 · 22/12/2012 16:31

I have one and love it , i use the 5x side for eyebrow and chin hair puckinf and the odd blackhead squeeze ... Very satisfying !
