Dress for Christmas Day, comfy but stylish?

suntodayplease · 15/12/2012 21:53

Can anyone recommend a dress to wear on Christmas Day? I never normally dress up, but we've a newly decorated house and guests coming so I fancy making a bit of an effort for once. I'm 5ft 9 so nothing too short, I'd love a jumper dress of sorts which I can wear with opaques and ankle boots. I try and avoid black....

I'm planning on shopping on the high street on Monday whilst doing all of the Christmas shopping

Thanks!

Oh, I am a big phase eight fan at the moment. I'm taller than you and I even where a couple of there jumper dresses as dresses with boots on a rare evening out!

I'm wearing this, though it's a little loose now but still looks good :)

Curtsey · 15/12/2012 22:13

Zara - in grey or ivory. It would certainly be long enough from the looks of it.

suntodayplease · 15/12/2012 22:17

I like the look of the Zara one, I'll add that to my list. Thanks
Any more suggestions?

I like it too although I'm teeny so it'd never look right on me. Still, if you're tall and not prone to dressing up often, it looks like a good option...sort of relaxed but potentially quite elegant in a low-key way.

Dorothy Perkins seem to have lots of knitted jumper dresses at the mo -

this one could be nice if you have the figure for it!

CajaDeLaMemoria · 15/12/2012 22:30

Marking my place! I'd love suggestions too.

DP one doesn't load for me :( and the Zara one is nice but I'm too small to carry it off, I think.

Wolfiefan · 15/12/2012 22:33

I'm tempted by a monsoon one.

suntodayplease · 15/12/2012 22:33

DP didn't load for me too, I'll take a look shortly. I'm sure there's a jumper dress out there for everyone!

I have this from mint velvet which I am planning on wearing at every opportunity www.mintvelvet.co.uk/-black-&-charcoal-60s-dress-/dresses/mint-v/fcp-product/2267

FunnysFuckingFreezing · 15/12/2012 22:37

truth is I'll look more like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=jim+royal&hl=en&sa=X&tbo=d&biw=1222&bih=702&tbm=isch&tbnid=bKA9ju-oeqrFLM:&imgrefurl=en-gb.facebook.com/jim.royal.984&docid=PrHuAO7DzfjyiM&itg=1&imgurl=profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc6/275628_100002806941399_3467225_n.jpg&w=180&h=253&ei=ZvvMUMGPIM2ChQfKsgE&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=4&vpy=302&dur=34&hovh=202&hovw=144&tx=56&ty=78&sig=107960140726080815234&page=1&tbnh=145&tbnw=99&start=0&ndsp=34&ved=1t:429,r:15,s:0,i:160" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

FunnysFuckingFreezing · 15/12/2012 22:40

cathyandclaire · 15/12/2012 22:41

suntodayplease · 15/12/2012 22:47

Mint Velvet dress is fabulous. Just added it to my (imaginary) wish list.
Have to say, M&S had some startlingly good stuff in today (as I was looking for yet another navy cardigan for G.granny) ...

EuroShagmore · 16/12/2012 08:47

Benetton have some lovely jumper dresses this year. They are pure wool though, so need to be washed with care. I have one and am tempted to get more! I hadn't bought anything in there in years but since popping in a couple of months ago, I keep going back!

I've been lusting after this for a while now. It's not very forgiving though. I told myself I'd get it when I lost my fertility drug weight, but I am still waiting!

I picked up this yesterday for Xmas day. The cut is very forgiving! The side zip is very short though. I almost got stuck in it trying it on and both the dresses they had in my size had rips at the end of the zip. Still, I'll have Mr euro to help me out of it at the end of Xmas day! Wink

suntodayplease · 16/12/2012 10:02

Euro the KM one is lovely, and a good length. I'll give it a try but of it needs spanx then it's probably not one for Christmas Day! I've not bought from Benetton for before but DD has a couple of cardigans which have been great so I'll have a look online.
