Hair product to give my thick hair some oomph?

So I've got thick straight-ish hair in a short choppy bob (am trying and prob failing to stop it sounding like mum-hair), I'm happy with the style but these days it tends to fall really flat and look a bit drab. I used to have highlights which seemed to make my hair more manageable, but am on an economy drive and anyway the colour is actually ok, it's just gone a bit limp from lack of bleach.

Can anyone recommend any products to oof it up a bit, make it look a bit more messy in a good way? The best I've come up with is dry hair shampoo but obviously it's not actually meant for styling and makes me and DD cough

Does mousse still exist? (relic from the 80s...)

Mousse does indeed exist, you will find it in any shop selling hairspray.

Yep, thanks colditz think I'd have managed that but that will teach me to ask closed questions.

Recommendations for specific products would be v helpful if anyone has any.

I have similar hair, I sometimes use the pink tigi shampoo and I have noticed a difference. Think it's the superstar one it was about £20 for 2 massive bottles but it lasts ages and I was my hair everyday.

Thanks twinkle!

Lol sorry, I really did thnk you were curious as to the existence of mousse!

I would actually suggest a small amount of texturising wax on the ends, to define the layers and give it a bit of wow.

Try some texturising spray like the salt ones from Tresemme. They don't add a lot of shine (but matte hair is in) but they really do give some oomph and texture to a choppy cut.

You can get root powder as well which is good to floof up your roots for added volume!

Aww ta colditz I genuinely thought you were being withering!

Better shampoo and a touch of wax it is then, I'll be transformed (hope this goes better than the setting lotion thread which mainly left me smelling like cheap aftershave).

Ooh more suggestions, thanks stinky. I have never heard of salt texturising spray - perhaps it's the new mousse? Grin

I have similar hair and use a Redken thickening lotion, and also their powder to oomph roots. And some clay on the ends.

Buy the Got2b brand, it's about £2 I think, AT THE SAVERS SHOP. It's called "2 Sexy Collagen Lift Effect Big Volume Mousse". Put it on the roots and tips your head upside down to dry. Good (inexpensive) stuff and it won't make you cough!

Right - I now have a shopping list and am going to see which of these I can find. Loving the idea of hair stuff called Sexy something!
