I hate my new Zara winter coat- and I can't afford another one- whinge

Have been agonising over a new winter coat for a couple of years... not wanting to spend money on the wrong one. I usually go for something long black & classic-ish.

Anyway, I bought a black wool biker type coat with leather lapels and zips from Zara, and after wearing it a few times have realised though its lovely its not meee... it dosent suit me. And I spent £130 on it. Can't afford another. Have worn it twice so can't take it back.

I know theres nothing to be done, just feel gutted! Am stuck with it now, arent I? Sad

Can you not eBay it and recover some of the cost? I think Zara coats go pretty well on there.

I was going to suggest ebaying it - having been on the sharp end of bidding wars on Zara coats, they seem to sell like hot cakes (sometimes bizarrely fetching more than they cost online when still in stock!).

I'm worried I'll ebay i and get a tenner or something- haven't sold much on there. Can I make a minimum price?

I did think of a scarf, if nothing else- its the shape that dosent suit me, I think. In my head I'm 6ft, perhaps...

I have a Zara down coat which I realised was crap after a few weeks, really poor design.

Might e-bay it at the start of next winter.

well i have to say am not keen. you can start the bidding at a certain price i know, best try whilst it's still this seasons stuff?

or shove a realistic buy it now price on there? With that though, if someone starts to bid the buy it now is cancelled out.

I think you can also do a buy it now/ open to offers.

You can do a buy it now or best offer. And you are quite free to reject any offers if they aren't enough.

I think it is a gorgeous coat. I have this similar: leather biker coat and I have had so many compliments. I am 5ft 10.5 so maybe they are designed for tall people?!

Anyway by way of reassurance here is one on ebay in UK with bidding at £100 ebay coat

It's a shame you missed free listing yesterday as you could have put an appropriately high starting price on and not paid to list. You can still start the bidding wherever you want - just now you will have to pay for the privilege.

Or you could list at BIN for £120 or whatever price you think - this will cost you about 40p to list and then about 10 percent of the sale price so you would probably get rid very quickly and make most of your money back, especially if you advertise speedy postage and promise to get in post as soon as payment received so someone can get some good wear before Xmas.

Yes, think it would look great on a tall person- its lovely soft wool/leather. Maybe I can scrape back £100 and by something better suited to a short arse...

Ooh I feel your pain, I've just done this with the Merrell Ellenwood. I do like it but it's just too big and doesn't look right. So annoyed with myself!

Not sure it will sell for 130 though? Is it a sell out coat? As that will make a difference? I would be tempted to return and say it was a gift?

Maresedotes, she can't take it back because she's worn it! It may not be grubby, but how would you like to buy a coat, for a lot of money, to find it had been worn for a weeks first? I work in retail, and we would know it's been worn- it will smell of perfume and general wearing, there will be little marks on it, it may have stretched or bagged slightly in certain places due to your shape. OP, I know you said you wouldn't do it anyway, and good for you. I think it's a disgraceful attitude.

Definitely list it on eBay, Flashearts. The last two listed as used went for £102 and £130. Make sure you write it is lightly used, full describe any little flaws and the reason you are selling it. It is worth googling the image to find a model or blogger photo wearing the coat, and add in the title 'Bloggers fave', '2012' and 'Sold out'- pretty sure it is sold out online. These are words a lot of Zara shoppers search for. You can put it on a Buy it now, or start the listing higher if you wanted to be sure to get a good price, but you are risking people starting bidding thinking it's a bargain then getting caught up- swings and roundabouts really. If you don't mind doing it, it's also worth investigating postage abroad, shoppers in China, Australia and America seem to buy a fair amount of Zara.

Hey LordFlashearts! You should definitely sell your coat on ebay so you can get a bit of your money back then buy another coat that you like better. You mentioned that you are on the shorter side and you often go for long black classic coats, how about trying to go Navy blue this time? I found this coat online that I think might suit you best. The cut is fitted at the waist so it is slimming and gives an illusion of height, it is also long (which is what you want), it is also classic but with a bit of twist what with the details on it. I also think that the 2 front pockets come in handy. Hope this helps! Oh it is also affordable and it won't break your budget.
Update us on what happened on ebay.. How much did you sell it for?
