What to wear to the ballet?

I am going to the ballet at Sadlers Wells next weekend and have no idea what to wear. It is the matinee performance and i'llbe having dinner in islington first, though not sure where yet. As its the afternoon I don't want to be too dressy but still want to make an effort. I recently had a baby so it's my first 'outing' since my DS arrived Grin Any ideas ?

I am 29, 5ft 6, size 8-10 and am pale with long dark brown hair. Help!

does this style of dress appeal? I'm currently eyeing it up for myself but am 31 weeks pregnant so no point! I tank it would look fab with a pair of high ankle boots and a cosy scarf!

Just taking a real stab in the dark here!!

Jeans, nice boots and a dressy jumper will do nicely.

Some people really dress up. Some people will wear jeans. Where are you sitting in the theatre?

polyhymnia · 10/12/2012 15:23

Very much doubt people will dress up much particularly for a matinee.
I think marakis suggestion is right . Or if you go for a dress nothing 'dressy' - a sim

Sorry sent too early from phone! Was going to say a dimple knitted dress and boots would be fine too. But nothing 'fancy''.

polyhymnia · 10/12/2012 15:26

Simple not 'dimple' !

I took DD to a ballet matinee on Sat on a very cold day. I wore tall black boots, black opaques, a short black A-line Zara skirt, a bone colored fine merino cardigan, a string of big pearls and my new posh bag. I fit in well, was perhaps a tad more dressed-up than most other women there.

Wear whatever makes you feel good and confident!

valiumredhead · 10/12/2012 18:07

Some people will dress up but most won't for a matinee. Wear what you feel comfortable in and enjoy!

I was at Sadlers Wells on Saturday for the matinee and you don't need to worry about dressing up. Lots of knit type dresses with boots and scarf to keep out the chill, some more studenty boho types dressed down in jeans etc. If it's a nice treat for you post your DS then I would wear anything you like that makes you feel comfortable but a bit dressed up beyond usual day to day. And the ballet was fab-u-lous!
