Are waistcoats on women a bit naff/passé?

I fancy one, and was thinking of suggesting it to DH as a potential xmas present 'cos he's asking.

Would I be committing a huge sartorial faux pas?

And if not, where would I find such a thing?

Thank you stylish ladies

Well, I've just put one in the jumble bag and it's never been worn; I'm no style queen, so if even I know they're hideous, that says a lot!

tinsel that's v funny, didn't realise I was quite that far off the mark Grin I do remember them being in when I was at school c 1994 but I hoped maybe they'd had a revival!

I had a little black waistcoat I wore all the time when I was 16.

The photos have been condemned.

I sometimes wear a waistcoat, but as part of a 'suit' for work (i.e it has a matching v slim fitting pencil skirt). I like it, but then it suits my style. I have seen people look daft in them...

My power lesbian boss wears one if that helps?! They do keep your middle warm though....

Caja and minicc Grin

hopefully my style is quite androgynous (skinny, no boobs) ? so I often wear a skinny jeans, fitted shirt, brogue/ankle boots combo and felt tempted to through a waistcoat into the mix. Sounds like I might be exposing myself to widespread ridicule though.

Tanya from Eastenders likes them, doesn't she? I think that's not good, but who knows?

Bella88 · 06/12/2012 16:40

They always reek of snooker player to me, sorry.

tinselahohoho · 06/12/2012 16:43

Well, if it's a plain black one you want, I haven't been to the charity shop yet so it's all yours!

TheCraicDealer · 06/12/2012 16:46

Do you want to look like a waitress in Frankie & Bennys?

No. Just no.

lurkingfromhome · 06/12/2012 17:49

No. On a par with ties (as in shirt & tie combo). Awful, sorry.

Tertius · 06/12/2012 17:58

Sienna miller went in for them didn't she? Boho style but now a little dated.

Alright if worn with great style and confidence. Hard to pull off that though. And if you are asking then I think not!

sarahseashell · 06/12/2012 18:05

I think they're better if you must on the flat chested than with boobage
