Inspired by hully's thread in Chat, so be nice. Grin

I have far too many coats and I absolutely love them. I've got a ridiculous-but-glam full length black velvet one (no, it's not 'goth' at all), and a really nice 70s one my mum left me. I also have a cream one with a fur collar that I got from French Connection a couple of years back, and which I believe MN S&B told me about.

And I've just bought my first ever leather jacket, which I keep wanting to sniff because it smells so good.

What good buys have you seen recently, or what's your dream coat (maybe someone on here can find it for you). Sadly, my dream one is those long, very elegant caramel-coloured coats that were trendy a couple of years ago, that come down to about calf-length and tie with a belt at the waist. I look like a hamster in them. Sad

Shite. I've just realized, I start a thread in S&B and in a page it goes from glamorous coats to elf-busking and mini-me leopard print.

Whoops.

Here's a nice coat a bit expensive though to raise the tone LRD. Xmas Grin

anniewoo · 06/12/2012 14:42

DH just told me i'm getting wrinkles Sad

tethersjinglebellend · 06/12/2012 14:43

This is my ideal coat of the moment, but is sadly too small Sad

LRDtheFeministDude · 06/12/2012 15:01

Oh, annie! That doesn't sound a very nice thing to tell you! Shock

We all get wrinkles in the end and I bet he's got a few and all.

Got to say I don't like that so much themum - to me it doesn't look as if it has enough shape. But it'd depend on your body. Fuck me at the price, too!

I do like the green one, Tethers.

I Have three winter coats, two of which I am rescuing from NJ over Christmas.
The one I currently have is a London fog grey raincoat thing, kind of military/parka in style.
The one that us my every day wear one is grey wool, straight cut, kind of sixties button up to the collar affair, which I love.
Then my fancy one, which I try not to wear too much, I got in a fenwicks sale, it's by some posh Austrian designer. It has a skirted bottom with a very tight waist and it can be buttoned up to the neck with an across fastening and had the most beautiful red riding style hood. It's grey wool in a sort of smudged tartan pattern. I loves it!

LRDtheFeministDude · 06/12/2012 15:20

I would love a red hooded coat. That sounds beautiful (they all do, but especially that)!

Oops Blush -wrong thread

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 06/12/2012 17:52

HObbs have some gorgeous full lenght one

I have a wonderful "father christmas coat" that was my sisters - bright red swing coat, almost full length with black velvet collar and cuffs. Only worn at Xmas though!

I have a grey wool/cashmere coat from M&S that DH bought me for Christmas in 1995 and it is still going strong. (the coat he bought me in 1986 was only given to charity in 2009! )

LRDtheFeministDude · 06/12/2012 17:53

I did wonder, annie!

I do hope you're alright - take care of youself, ok?

LRD I like the sound of that vintage leopard print coat.

Absy · 07/12/2012 10:32

I'm here to raise the tone

here's my super awesome coat. It's true love it is.

LRDtheFeministDude · 07/12/2012 10:39

It's very lovely, tufty, I quite want to steal it.

absy - ooh, that coat! I was wondering when someone would link to it. Do you actually own it?

I love it and I have a voucher for KM that DH gave me for my birthday, but he makes faces when I suggest getting it because 'you don't need more coats' (true) and 'it looks like what an old Russian woman would wear'. Sad

I am glad to see others in the world have taste. Smile

Absy · 07/12/2012 10:51

I actually own it. I lost my coat last winter (I have no idea how) so had one coat (which was my mother's before me, so around 20+ years old, with no lining) so was in the market. I then dragged DH around about 5 shops and tried on every single coat, and that was my favourite (of course. It was also the most expensive, but about double the others) but decided against it, as it was a lot of money, and I could have got something cheaper. So, DH (and this is why he is awesome) went and bought it for me for my birthday.

Yes, it does make you look Russian (but, see cossack issue - it happens to me pretty much regardless) but it's so beautiful and lovely and it brightens winter for me.

LRDtheFeministDude · 07/12/2012 10:54
Envy

It is gorgeous.

I'm absolutely fine with the idea of looking Russian (I don't, even remotely, and if you do I am jealous - I bet you have those gorgeous slanty cheekbones, right?). It's DH trying to put me off, the bastard.

(Not really. He's lovely.)

I love Karen Millen stuff.

I'd like a long Victorian style dress coat in a dark colour that doesn't make me look like a goth. I bought a gorgeous dark brown corduroy one from Zara years ago.

MadBusLady · 07/12/2012 12:25

I'm umming and ahing about this. I can just about afford it in the not-buying-anything-else-this-winter sense.

Haven't had a really good winter coat in years. My last really fab one was a soft oatmealy tweed with a pale brown fur collar from M&S Limited Collection years ago. Too small now Sad It's still hanging up on the side of my wardrobe, I can't quite bring myself to let it go.

MadBusLady · 07/12/2012 12:29

Ooh, and I would love a proper felted wool red duffle coat with a hood! Have dark hair and pale skin, I love red. La Redoute used to do them every winter but I've stopped buying from them now after they fucked up my payments and put the one and only extant blot on my credit rating. Xmas Angry

LRDtheFeministDude · 10/12/2012 19:56

bun - ohhh, if you find it, send me a link, ok?! I love the sound of that.

A coat that swishes when you walk is just so glam, isn't it?

mad - your oatmeal tweed does sound very nice. Keep it! You never know when you'll want it/someone you know will love it.

I do love a nice winter coat because when you find the perfect one it is snug and lovely and also looks and feels just right.

A red coat with a hood would be one of my holy grails.

This is the designer that I was talking about, Erich Fend and hopefully will link through to this seasons red riding hood offering:

Djembe · 13/12/2012 23:19

I have a tomato red duffle coat from Tommy Hilfiger I've had for about 4 years and it makes me smile every winter when I dig it out Smile its so cheerful and cosy!

It didn't make me smile this year so it's going on eBay once I get my arse in gear, so look out for it LRD !

I used to have a beautiful leather jacket when I was 14/15, from a charity shop. It was hip length and sort of straight cut, I was a bit gothy then and it was the best thing ever. Apart from vintage velvet jackets we all wore back then of course. Not sure what happened to it

That KM coat is beautiful.

LRDtheFeministDude · 13/12/2012 23:26

Ooh! I'd forgotten this thread. maggie I love pretty much all the coats on that site! Especially the three-quarter length ones. Gorgeous. I like the red one, but I like some of the others even more.

djembe - ooh .... that sounds gorgeous (the red duffle coat).

I wish charity shops were still as good as I like to think they were when we were teenagers.
