What do you wear for going out to the local pub/curry? Inspiration needed....

I wear jeans every day (which I'm happy with) but don't necessarily want to wear them for going out in the evening. I've got a few do's coming up but nothing fancy, just local pubs/curry house and fancied something new but a shopping trip today and has just left me depressed!

If I don't want jeans and don't want a sparkly/smart/party dress then what should I wear??? I have shorts which I love but feels tad overdressed for the local curry house and I have the mango sequinned jumper to wear with either jeans or said shorts.

Can anyone offer any inspiration...?

Am 39, size 8/10, 5'5.

Gah, I was going to suggest shorts. How about mannish tailored black/navy trousers and interesting t-shirty top: you've made an effort but you're not overdone.

if you are going to a restaurant its only your top half that anyone sees

I wear jeans shorts or try this seasons coated trousers for a jean - a like effect

DP or warehouse or Zara

Skinny cords, maybe? I have Uniqlo cream ones which are a little bit more dressy than jeans without being dressy dressy. Plus they keep you warm now that it appears to be winter!

CQuin · 04/12/2012 09:30

They aren't very skinny though, are they

QueenCadbury · 04/12/2012 09:47

Thanks for the ideas ladies. Cords could be a good compromise between dressy dressy and jeans, i hadn't thought of those. i do love dressing up and donning my shorts or a dress and heels but always feel too overdone.

I looked everywhere yesterday as well as online but I just can't find anything that inspires me or if I do it doesn't fit properly. Hence the depressing shopping trip.

Keep the ideas coming ladies...

If Im going out somewhere non dressy but still want to look nice, i tend to wear a dress with flats and black opaques (ballet flats or ankle boots). Short printed dresses usually, or sometimes a lacy one with a brown leather belt to dress it down.

Madmog · 04/12/2012 11:29

How about a pair of smart black trousers and a top (something nice, but that would go with jeans as well so you're not too dressy).

I'm over thinking it really aren't I? Xmas Grin

I can do daytime and I can do glam but I find it hard to do the middle ground. I should just get more confidence and wear what I like instead of worrying about being over dressed

Coloured jeans and a top/blouse?

Printed dress, cardi and boots?

Leggings/jeggings and tunic top?

Pineapplelady · 04/12/2012 18:08

I vote for leggings/jeggings and tunic top or dress - flattering and comfortable to wear too, you can eat as much as you like Grin

And I don't care what the fashion police say, I wear tall boots (mid thigh) with mine! I'm old enough to make my own mind up about what suits me!

What is a curry house? An Indian restaurant?

BOFingSanta · 05/12/2012 00:09

You mean you don't have a special curry outfit? Tsk.
