Have just got La Redoute catalogue and am quite impressed by some of their stuff this summer.

Certainly liking it more than anything Next, M&S etc have to offer.

I'm not sure about quality though and also remember posts about problems with orders.

Not expecting Boden quality for their prices but don;t want tat that falls apart afetr 2 washes either.

Thoughts please?

I like the quality. Can't afford to buy from them often.. but I have never had any probs with any aspect of my orders.

Nbg · 07/04/2006 18:51

I like La Redoutes stuff.
Only problem is their delivery. It can take over a week to receive an order which is rather annoying.

SleepyJess · 07/04/2006 18:52

Ah yes.. that is the one problem I have had. An outfit I ordered 'for a Christening' did not come in time!

Nbg · 07/04/2006 18:54

They've just sent this order code to me if you want to order anything

4135
£5 off, no minimum spend.

cece · 07/04/2006 18:54

Orders can take ages to arrive and comes in dribs and drabs, noall at once.

I find the sizes on the small size and for short people. Quite often have to send things back. If things do fit they often shrink in the wash!

moondog · 07/04/2006 18:54

I can never see anything in it I like when I look through it, but have had lovely dresses for dd from there as gifts and have been very impressed with quality and finish.

FrayedKnot · 07/04/2006 18:58

Hmm. Wonder if the delivery thing depends on where you live, e.g. if they use local couriers.

Will give them a go I think.

But will order on teh large size - well French clothes always minsicule anyway so was kind of expecting that.

Am ordering stuff for DS anyway being as they have loads of plain stuff with NO logos on. Hoorah!

The girls clothes are gorgeous.

I have never had a problem with quality from Redoute, nor with delivery either although some things take longer to come than others (because they don't have everything in stock). Buy well before you want the item to be sure of having it in time. They are very good with returns too. They did once charge me twice for something I swapped for a different size, but they were very good at rectifying the mistake.

Witchycat · 07/04/2006 19:10

I haven't had a problem with delivery (live in Bradford though & think they are based Wakefield - not far).

Size wise I find t-shirts way too small for my broad chested 15 month old (they seem to go for skinny-fit in the French catalogues) but trousers are always too long (she has short legs though so trousers from anywhere are too long).

Check out vertbaudet too - almost identical IME.

I did hear something about La Redoute being really dodgy in use of sweat shop labour outside the UK. Don't know if that's something that bothers you -must admit I didn't investigate it - don't really use them very much.

blueteddy · 07/04/2006 19:10

Nice styles, good offers, but poor quality IMO.

SleepyJess · 07/04/2006 20:23

Can anyone tell me what the charges are if you have a credit account with La Redoute? I have always paid outright for stuff I have bought from them in the past. Have recently paid off Vertbaudet (not great but not too bad) and Studio (absolutely horrendous for charges!) and don't want a start an account like one of those... (but would absolutely love some nice bits and bobs for summer...)

MerlinsBeard · 07/04/2006 20:27

small sizes and the things u order are usually thinner than u thought they would be.

The amount of junk mail from them is unreal, if u don't order very much (like me - i just want to pay off my balance and leave now) they send u mailings fullof stuff like "wow ur such a fantstic customer heres £1.50 of ur next order over £100" or some rubbishy offer like that.

Sorry, not impressed at all.

Auntymandy · 07/04/2006 20:28

always like La redoute and Vertbaudet DS loves the free computer thingies we got too!

Passionflower · 07/04/2006 22:46

Just received an order from La Red. Totally unimpressed with the clothes. The cut on the trousers was awful. Far too tight across the thighs and bum and massive around the waist, crutch felt halfway to my knees. (was a size 12 BTW am a 10 but bought larger on advice). Shoes nice but am returning one pair because the heel started rubbing after 5mins around the house. Love the look in the catalogues but won't be bothering to order anything else esp. after hearing that they use sweatshops!

Branster · 10/04/2006 22:38

i often use them and have to say i've never had a problem with service or product quality or fit.
as for cheap labour, i very much doubt that! some labels say made in eastern european countries, some in marocco but haven't seen any for the far east (unlike gap for example). as far as i know, eastern europeans are one of the best places in the textile industry and produce good finishes and certainly no slavery there in terms of labour. all paid fair and square for their market.

Skribble · 10/04/2006 22:41

I found the quality esp the fabric of some stuff not that great, but the free gifts are good sometimes.

Branster · 10/04/2006 22:43

i agree, the fabric is not always gret, but usually reflected in the price. no obvious problems with the finish though!

BadHair · 10/04/2006 23:20

Used them a couple of times but a jumper I ordered stretched in the first wash, and the rest is mostly really poor quality. TBH I've bought better off markets for half the price.

Having said that I got a really lovely pair of knee-length biker style boots from this winter's catalogue. They cost less than half price as I used the sale price plus a 20% off voucher. And dh has had some stuff using sales and vouchers that was cheap but OK quality - mens seems to be better than womenswear.

Free gifts are terrible. I had a coffee maker that leaked hot water all over the worktop, so I asked for a replacement, and that did exactly the same. My mum had a really scary Victorian-looking doll from them - she placed one order then it just arrived in the post as "a gift for one of our most valued customers"! She got a horrid black polyester cardi once too.

Didn't know they used sweatshops, but it figures. Won't be using again, bargain boots or not.
