I bought some from Tesco at the weekend - they were called velvet finish, I think. I'm tall too and they were a good length (got large for the length) and 160 denier. They are the only ones I've seen that weren't glossy.

sphynx · 27/11/2012 15:23

I have also been looking for the same thing and have now splashed out on a pair of Falke 100 denier pure matt tights from House of Fraser. I heard about them when they were recommended on the Wearing it Today blog.

fergoose · 27/11/2012 15:29

I second the tesco ones - they are lovely and soft and only £4

Graceparkhill · 27/11/2012 15:32

I swear by Wolford opaques. V £££ but last forever. I have 3 pairs which I bought 6 years ago and they are still going strong.
Falke also good esp for tall people( I am not tall)

LulaPalooza · 27/11/2012 15:56

YY re Wolford.

Falke tights fall down on me and I am not particularly short but the finish is nice.

MadAboutHotChoc · 27/11/2012 17:50

primark

EricIsMine · 27/11/2012 17:51

I got some great 300 denier ones in Asda, they fit well and have a lovely matt finish ... And £4... bargain!

Ilovecrossfit · 27/11/2012 19:46

will check falke as Im tall, do you mean Wolford more than 50 if so not buying if under will check them too :)

The fleece lined ones in Primark look like leggings and are cheap as chips

Graceparkhill · 27/11/2012 20:40

Mat opaque 80 denier £23

MarshaBrady · 27/11/2012 20:42

Wolford are great. Not sure about their highest denier.

lurkingaround · 27/11/2012 21:18

You would think it easy to buy opaque high denier tights. Seems simple. It so flipping isn't. Tried the Primark ones, didn't like them, they're not smooth, and don't feel nice on. And they fell down. Tesco Velvet touch aren't bad but they also fell down and I ended up hoiking them up all day. H&M also ended up falling down. In whatever size I bought. Ideally I would like some thigh sucking-in power built in, but that seems incredibly elusive this year. M&S are fine, no sucking-in thigh power over a piddly 60 denier tho.
I'm going to try Wolford next time I'm in town. (And I may hold this thread responsible if they are not good harrumph)

Apologies the thread hijack.Blush

Shattereddreams · 27/11/2012 21:31

I wear Falke now that M&S are so shit and chopped a foot off the length of their tights.
They fall down a smidge.
Will try Wolford next.

There's a great website mytights but not sure of returns policy.

SoldeInvierno · 27/11/2012 21:32

Falke 100 denier matt tights. I get them from mytights.com

fromparistoberlin · 28/11/2012 15:39

I also like wolford, for a short xmas dress they are best and actually for £20 not bad value, as last forever
whereas M&S that will eventually ladder cost £8

Springhasarrived · 28/11/2012 16:55

Wolford too. Well worth the money.

prelim29 · 28/11/2012 17:52

M&S are total rubbish, don't waste your money. Primark 80 denier are ok but fade after about 10 washes. Wolford all the way for me - the last pair I had lasted 8 years! (yes, really!)

aquavit · 28/11/2012 18:02

I love My Wolford opaques. But if I am honest they are not quite long enough (am 5'10) though not so short as to stop me wearing them

GlitKnit · 28/11/2012 18:02

i liek wolford but the M is sitll pretty long for me ( size 12 32 inch inside leg)

AmberNectarine · 28/11/2012 19:15

Falke definitely the way to go, Wolford ok, but not as good IMO.

anniewoo · 28/11/2012 19:49

Wolford or Falke.
Though i do use Dunnes Stores ( a big Irish company with U.K. stores) for everday- brilliant value €8 for silky soft opaques.... but i know you wanted more matt ones.

permaquandry · 28/11/2012 20:17
