Desperate petite apple searching for party dress!

I feel like I'm losing my mind. DH has a fancy works Christmas party coming up (though in fact, it's not THAT fancy - it's in a swanky hotel but other people don't seem to make much effort Confused).

I personally want to look nice and want a new dress as always but this year I just cannot seem to find anything at all that suits ie disguises my awful tummy.

I am 5ft 1 and a size 10 (though have just had a delivery from House of Fraser and all 3 dresses were too big??) Has anyone seen anything that looks like it would do the job? I don't really want to spend too much as it's likely I won't wear it again but have the funds to splash out if the perfect dress comes along. I suppose I could wear a skirt & top but haven't looked so far....

So the best dress I have found that fits this bill is the French Connection Penny Party Dress. it's great and would really suit an apple. It is quite short so you need to be prepared to show off your legs a bit but with tights, that's fine. It's not from the current season but you can find them on ebay. E.g. here

Thanks for the ideas. The only one I vaguely like is the JL one. Think I'll just have to trawl the Internet some more or maybe do something totally crazy like wear something I already have Grin

What about this empire line would be good for your shape.

Celticlassie · 25/11/2012 19:28

this?

or this?

Celticlassie · 25/11/2012 19:30

this also hides a multitude of sins.

Househunter · 25/11/2012 19:33

This was great for my tummy but dry clean only. Comes in other colours too but you might find it too long.

Chewbecca · 25/11/2012 19:41

Love this pied a terre dress, comes in lots of colours, very flattering on the tummy, comes to bottom of calf on me (5ft 0")

dottyaboutstripes · 26/11/2012 11:58

Thanks for trying! They are all too old or too young for me I feel (ARGH to 42, almost 43..)

Quite like the Pied a Terre one but it looks a bit slinky and after 6 babies my body is very lumpy.

Pied a terre dress really is super forgiving - try it, you can always send it back!

notjustamummythankyou · 29/11/2012 08:10

I've got the dress from pied a terre. I'm an Apple and had a baby just 8 months ago. It is very flattering - I had so many complements when I wore it to a wedding recently.

AND it's reduced in price right now - give it a go!

BunnyLebowski · 29/11/2012 08:25

OP - While lovely, that Pied a Terre dress is 112.5cm long. It would come down to your ankles Confused.

Unless I'm reading your OP wrong and you're actually 5'10.

Will have a mooch for you.

notjustamummythankyou · 29/11/2012 09:34

Yes, good point! I'm 5'8 and it stops about 3in below my knee. Still worth trying though: the way it ruches around the waist and hips means that you can wear it shorter or longer to suit, and in ways to hide flatter curves in all the right places.

But I do concur - it may indeed drown the op. And that's not a good look.

dottyaboutstripes · 29/11/2012 19:54

Success! Today I bought the Whistles Bella floral print dress (sorry I don't know how to link on my phone Blush)
It's so much lovelier IRL too

Is it this one?

It's beautiful Envy

Really like your dress OP, great choice.

Re: the pied a terre dress though i have not found it long, as I said, I am 5ft 0 and it comes to mid calf so that's odd!
