Should I have a short haircut?? Or will it be frumpy?

OK, I'm too stupid to post photos or anything so I know you can't really judge, but go with me on this! I have had middling / longish hair for EVER. It's now just past shoulderlength, and I have some layers cut in, and a fringe.

I want to keep a fringe as I hate my face shape without one, but my hair always looks like it just hangs there iykwim. I do straighten it but it just looks so THIN and still hangs there!! I guess what I mean is I just don't feel it does anything for me at all, and I seldom do anything with it.

Been wondering whether to go for a really short do - but wondered if this was just the slipperly slope to looking middle aged, as I am 38, and am curvy (on a good day) and just a bit plump (on a bad one). Also have to dye my hair as it's SOOOO grey.

Whaddya think?

If going for a short do, my advice would be to pay extra to make sure you get a really good cut, it makes all the difference between frumpy and trendy. Fringes tend to make you look younger and more stylish anyway

most hairdressers will give you a free consultation. There was a website that would show you what you looked like with a certain hairstyle but I can't remember it , sorry not much help

I have short hair, and everybody says how much it suits me rather than long

thanks mesenfants and cheltenhamgal!

I love the sound of the website where you can see yourself with different styles, what a good idea - will do a bit of searching on that.

Am deffo leaning toward going for it!
