Longevity of Essie nail polish?

I bought two neon polishes from Essie about a month ago. In fact less, it was the 20th October. I just put one on today, it is the second time I've used it - and it's gone gloopy already! Really really disappointed.

Has anyone else had this problem? Maybe it was just the formula or I've had a dodgy one - either way not impressed. I have 10 year old Rimmel polishes that are in better nick.

(And the lid was definitely on tight!)

I find Essie pretty long lasting, so perhaps you just got a duff bottle? I've got a few 2 year old + Essies and they haven't gone gloopy.

I don't know if that will make you feel better or worse? sorry!

don't find it any different to other polishes re storage, but it chips like mad so not worth the money

Hmmm.....maybe it's just a duff bottle then. I'll check my other one and then email I think.

germy most polish chips like anything on me, as sadly my nail tips are always peely and nasty. I have just reinforced all bar my thumbs with teabags so we'll see if that improves them! I probably won't buy from Essie again though especially as we have a company that sells OPI in work for £5.83 per bottle

I have a essie 2 yrs on and going strong. I actually love Essie nail varnish.

I have a bottle of Essie from 2-3 years back and it stays on my toenails until I redo them - 3-4 weeks! It's bombproof and my best toenail polish ever.

I hear they thinned out the formula when they went mass-market.

Where do you store your polishes? I keep all mine it the fridge. I rate Essie - longer lasting than Chanel / Dior / Lancôme. But all polishes last longer with Seche Vite over the top (thank you MN!)

Mines on my dresser, why is the fridge good for it?

All product formulas degrade over time, and heat makes them degrade faster, keeping nail varnish in the fridge helps the formula to say thin and go on smoothly, if you have a polish that tends to gloopiness, then keeping in the fridge will improve the texture.

Also if you live in a warm climate, it's a good idea to keep make up like foundation in the fridge so it doesn't degrade over time.

Most beauty products are developed to have at least a 3 year shelf life after opening.

Oh I have a very very very cold bedroom, that must be why my 6 yr old chanel one is going strong.

I have lots of Essie polishes that are fine, including a neon one. There are some good sellers on eBay I often buy from.

I bought a lovely green polish from essie in boots last week and it's horribly gloopy, won't go on at all. Maybe I should take it back!

I can't comment on essie however I have just bought some nailgirls and it's just started chipping after 5 days (of course I use seche vite too ) it's by far the best I've ever used. I got a sample I think from glossybox in the summer and was so impressed I bought a couple.

Essie chips like a bastard. Even more than Chanel

I've bought that green varnish from Boots too, and mine is fine, cream texture, but goes on smoothly. Yes I find Essie chips in about 4-5 days on my nails with base coat and top coat.

Ooh housewife I had some nail girls on until last night, the gold one that was in the beauty box and it didn't chip and looked really even. I'd never heard of it before.

You think Pinot? I bought the new Chanel red 'Pirate' a couple of weeks ago. Only worn it once as it chipped (with Seche Vite) in three days or so. Currently wearing Essie polish applied last Thursday. One nail chipped slightly this morning. I find Essie really long lasting.

I recently bought a CK one, it's really really really really good. 5 days before chips 2/3 weeks on your toes.

Yy strawberry I tried the gold too. However that has now disappeared, I'm guessing into dds bedroom :o It is very good coverage. I've got the matt black (stupid though because seche vite makes everything shiny, doh) a pillar box red and a mossy green. It must be good if I'm talking about it

I love essie colours, I change fairly regularly but polish chips vvv easily on me.

Gold/metallics and glitter polishes tend to last longer because of the mica in the formulation.

All my polishes are on the door shelves - rest of fridge is rammed with food!

BlameIt (great name by the way, Cuervo caused my one and only technicolour vomit so I certainly do blame it!) this is the teabag method. I've read through some of the comments and it seems to tear rather than cut is better. I use the brush on glue and then buffed with one of those blocks intended for gel nails. It's brilliant. Could go with bare nails as it's not visible - but who wants to do that??!

As for the Essie - I don't store mine in the fridge, never have, and I think this is the only one that has had this happen so quickly. Pretty sure I still have the receipt so I think I'll email the company as £9.75 for a pretty much unusable polish is not on!

Thank you and use cheapsmells/fragrance direct. Far cheaper!
