Scarf necklace, nice or weird hybrid?

For all manner of reasons I asked a friend what she would suggest as a gift for another friend. She suggested this:

I'm not sure if I can convince myself to buy it. I am missing something?

Hideous. Saying that, a friend of mine nearly bought one at a market this summer but the rest of us dissuaded her. So some people might like them .

Yuck. A nice way to make a scarf necklace is to get a large square silk scarf, roll it into a sausage, tie 3 knots in it and voila!

i wanted to hate it, from the description, but seeing it I do quite like it.
