house style, is this a barking idea?

in my house you walk in the front door, straight into the lounge (no porch) and walk straight ahead following your nose, passed the back of the sofa through to the kitchen and back door.

i like the idea of a beige carpet but, obviously would be filthy in no time. so, wondered about having the walk through area laminate and the rest carpet.

has anyone ever seen a room done like that? would it look wrong?
trying to create my dream room at the moment! Smile

festiveface, I think it depends how big your living area is & how 'finished' the line is between flooring and carpet.

I have a beige carpet and it is a nightmare.

Yes - I think you'd have to have some sort of beading type thingy, or something like they have in hotels when they have a restaurant that's carpeted with a wooden dance floor - don't see why it wouldn't work, though.

Think I'd be tempted to go with HF's idea of laminate all over with some big rugs.

i'd do the carpet, and then just put a runner behind the sofa
