So. I really really want a fringe

...but I have curly hair. It's about shoulder length right now.

I normally wear it curly as it's easier, I'm going to wash it in a minute and see if I can 'stretch' it into waves. I can't be dealing with straight fringe and curls, or straightening every day, but I really really want one!

Why I don't know

IMO don't have one if you have curly hair

i had one a few years ago, and it only looked nice if i straightened my WHOLE hair, which considering my hair in its natural state is mega curly like i have had an electric shock was no mean feat and probably damaging to be torturing it all the time with GHDs

I have curly/wavy hair, a bit longer than yours.

There seems to be a massive reluctance by hairdressers to do anything other than straighten my hair and add a few side wisps, even when I specifically asked for a style that I don't have to straighten and one with a fringe.

I know there is a collective horror in the hair world of 'mall fringes' but are they really so bad if they are not artificially straightened?

I DO like this and this. This one is pretty too, my hair is about that curly but shorter.

I had my hair cut in August, and it looks nice now it has grown out a bit, but I went to Toni & Guy - on recommendation! - and she hacked loads of it off so it's uneven where she 'thinned' it. The shape is good admittedly, but my regular hairdresser doesn't do that and the shape is nice.

Moomie I haven't had a fringe since I was about 8 and it looked like this

A bit 70s but I like it! My hair is probably a bit too curly for this look though.

I like that Blame but to be honest my hair is much much curlier than that. I'm not sure I could pull it off on a daily basis without actually tonging my hair into soft waves which would take hours and not hold up in inclement weather.

i like that 70's one, it's quirky and cute. am assuming as with straight hair that the hairdresser must NOT cut it too short tho, as it will spring up, with the less weight on it.

you can always part it too and put in a little diamante clip, they look gorgeous hidden in curly hair.x

Coo, I wouldn't. Not with proper curly hair. With waves, yep. With curls - no. It's just too Menopausal Annie for me. Sorry.

@ Pinot! That is my biggest fear.

My hair has got much much curlier since I cut it and stopped using heat so much, don't really want to start doing that but I am just gagging for something a bit different. When I wash my hair in a bit (of course DH has just decided to do stuff in the bathroom ) I'm going to try and dry it a bit differently and see if I can loosen the curl a bit.

So Beau did you get a fringe?? I'm thinking of getting one too. I do it every couple of years then grow it out. I start off loving it, but wear it up in a bun with just the fringe out (too lazy to style the rest), but then miss my curls and grow out the fringe.

2 years later (now) I repeat the whole process! I'm poised with the scissors...

i think you can do a fringe if its a side one and a bit longer - otherwise you will rue the day you had it cut!

i used to have a perm (not as bad as it sounds! i was a loose one and i loved it!)

i had a side fringe so it still had a loose wave to it and didnt look odd.

Yeh you're right - has to be something that's quite blendable with the rest of the hair, to avoid the hell that is the first photo upthread!!!

It did make me laugh though...
