Is 34 too old to be shopping in New Look and H&M?

As the title says. Went shopping today for some new clothes on a budget. Ended up finding some lovely knitwear in both New Look and H&M. I haven't shopped in either of this places for years. Am now worried that I will look a bit mutton dressed as lamb! Am I too old to shop there?

I'm 35 and if that's too old then I'm screwed- my entire wardrobe is from there. I'm just not ready for per una yet despite MILs suggestions that I'd find something lovely to suit my figure Confused

New look, yes sorry you're nearing their age limit. I'm 27 and can't walk in their shops now without feeling out of place.

H&M definitely not! I see women of all ages in there. Though i'd maybe avoid most of their divided range. It's too young for anyone over the age of about 18. Although saying that I have a look now and then as sometimes they put something pretty in the range to go with the bright neon colours and animal prints.

Does New Look have an age limit?

I have the confidence of middle age and don't feel out of place in any of these shops.

I've got a friend who's a real Boden fan and she considers H&M to be a bit cheap and nasty. I've had things from there that I've loved and that have lasted ages. The sizing is funny, but you can't have everything and I'm not ready for Boden or Per Una just yet. Wink

I'm 46 and h&m is my favourite shop. Recently I've bought 2 shirt dresses, cigarette pants, gorgeous penicil skirt and lots of other stuff.

In my local h&m (Madrid) there is a section which is a bit pricier than the rest, on average 50 euros for a skirt, or trousers etc., but the quality and designs are fab - very much like Cos. This range is h&m and not any thing to do with their designer collaborations.

I also buy stuff from their normal ranges too. I buy for my body shape and style first and don't really to the fashiony stuff.

I also buy regulary from Topshop, Zara, Mango and when in UK, warehouse, New Look. I LOVE the high street!

Your local H&M is Madrid? Envy

Why wouldn't it be, H&M are a European brand - they have shops everywhere.

Nope

Imlostwithoutahope · 02/11/2012 20:57

Hope my mil doesn't see this. She's 65 and today told me she bought a dress from river island yesterday :) she's always in new look and h&m

TheCountessOlenska · 02/11/2012 21:27

I buy loads from H&M and I'm nearly the same age as you OP, where do you normally shop??

My Mum is also a fan and she's 61!

New Look is a bit crap but I still shop in there. Can't think of anywhere on the high street I'd feel out of place.
