Clothes for a tall style conscious 12 yr old Girl

Where do you shop for nice clothes for a fashion conscious tall 12 yr old girl?

My daughter is quite tall 5 foot 5, so lots of the main brands in kids ranges tend to be too small for her. She's looking for a nice Christmas outfit online at the moment, (loves dresses) and just wondering if any of you out there with daughters of the same age/build would have any suggestions? Shes not into frills, but neither is she into tartan trousers and doc martens! I've looked at zara and mini boden, sizing now too small in 13-14 year bracket, and also next, nothing there that she likes! Where do you shop? Online sites preferred as we are rurally based! Many thanks!

Would she fit into adult clothes? Maybe look at Topshop, Oasis, Mango etc?

Yes Oasis is always nice, she would fit into a size 10 there. Its getting something that is age appropriate is the main problem Thank you so much!

At 5ft 5 and size 10 I would imagine she can shop pretty much anywhere a young woman would - you'd just have to be selective on styles. So maybe new look, river island, warehouse, hand m, Hollister, jack wills, gap, zara adult range, any department store etc. For clothes aimed at teens but that will still more than fit her try johnnie b at boden. They are nice and age appropriate but quite expensive if she is still growing rapidly. If you dare hang on their sale starts an age before Xmas but if buying now definitely seek out a discount code.

My little beanpole has the same problem. We go online to new look and sometimes boohoo.com but age appropriate is an issue sometimes

If she's outgrown mini boden, have a look at johnnie b (Boden's teen range).
The quality is usually very good.

For a less expensive option New Look often have a good range of dresses and do a size 6 which may fit.

Thanks Mysteryfairy, BoneyEm and Soda - all great suggestions! She does like Johnnie B even thought its a bit £££££ but nothing in the current range that she likes!! (I like some of the current range tho!!) Too tall for mini boden and well beyond the hotchpotch stage now.

Its a very awkward stage as necklines etc are a very sensitive area!

It is a nightmare, isn't it. I found a lovely dress for my 12 year old at Miss Selfridge recently. I tend to rely on New Look and H&M though - lots of age appropriate stuff at H&M if you look around.

I have the same problem with a 5' 4" ten year old! Age appropriate and slim fitting is a nightmare, but just bit the bullet and splashed out in Hollister, as it ticked all the boxes: trousers, sweet jumpers, shorts to wear with thick tights etc etc. Lovely. Just need to keep saving up!

Yes my DD loves Hollister and Abercrombie for casual wear.

She likes to buy a special christmas dress each year but because of her height we're tethering between pre teen fashion and adult fashion and the market is quite limited in this regard! Next is actually excellent generally in this regard as it does a "proper" childrens range right up to 16 yrs, we hit the jackpot there this Summer where she was able to get a few fabulous age appropriate dresses but cool-enough-to-wear which hit the mark! The winter selection is not so good, very bridesmaid-y and flouncy which is just not her style!

Age appropriate can be a problem for a 12y with our small chest.

A lot of adult dresses just don't fit and the necks come far to low.

Tops and nice trousers are often easier. Also oddly I found, M&S, Dorothy Perkins, Debenham's and shops among less at the most fashionable end of the market much better. DD1s going to wedding dresses come from coast and our local boutique. Stupid £££££, but not cut for a night club.

Now she's 14 it's easy, she's a standard 5'6" ladies size 12 with enough curves to look sensible in anything.
Two years ago shopping was really hard.

My DD is younger and shorter but at 10 needs a age 12-14 height wise. Just had a day's shopping and it is a struggle as nearly everything gapes on her massively. Have only got a few bits but I did find buying a couple of children's black vests to go under stuff helped. The vest (£2.99 from h and m) is a child (minimal boobage assumed) fit and makes otherwise borderline tops/tops of dresses look ok - perhaps you could try same?

its a difficult age to buy for. DD is a size 3.5 shoe - not even that unusual for a ten year old I don't think. We have tried every single pair of size 4 wellies in the shops on today but even in the children's ranges they seem at that size to be cut for tree trunk legs and massively wide feet. She has ended up with junior hunters which she is thrilled with but it galls to pay that much for wellies for a child still growing like a weed! At least she is ready for bonfire night though.

Thanks for all the advice so far ladies - Had a look at Oasis online last night but nothing there that she liked, its a tea dress style I think she's after, even thought she hasn't articulated that herself!

I'm going to take another look at Johnnie B as their stuff is perfectly pitched, if not a little $$$!

That's exactly what we need more larger clothes with minimal boobage assumed

DD1 spent two years in various plain M&S T-shirts (size 8) and jeans, shorts and long and short patterned skirts.

Putting vest tops under things is ok in winter, but it's some what defeating the object of a cool summer dress.

Remembers DD! trying on dresses that you could look in on arm hole and see out the other [hblush]
