The perfect items to update my winter wardrobe?

I'm 45 and looking despairingly at my wardrobe. My MIL took dds (14 and 15) shopping with a personal Topshop shopper (lucky girls) and they are sorted for Winter with lots of lovely things. My clothes look dull, dated and (whisper it) Mumsy.

Name your essential purchases for this season to update your wardrobes and give me some inspiration please!

I've just bought the following from the Dorothy Perkins sale:
Navy knitted Tunic dress with metallic threads
Cord jeggings
Thick black leggings
Black Peplum top
Blush/nude floaty chiffon top with embellishment for evenings

I also recently bought ankle boots and a boucle jacket.

Burgundy skinny jeans are also v on trend at the moment and surprisingly easy to wear. Any knitwear with sparkle/sequins knit into it is also bang on trend and v wearable.

What do you look like and what sort of things do you like to wear?

I am small... 5 3 and an 8 (just lost a stone, hence wardrobe crisis)

Love very high heels, have always been a bit of a bootcut-jeans-with-fitted-top-or-jacket girl because it made me look taller and slimmer. But I fear it makes me look old and dated now!

Legs are short so have struggled with skinnies but maybe now is the time to try! Loving the Boucle jacket idea too.

Am just looking for weekend stuff, work from home so no suits needed.

Am a sucker for a bit of Westwood (can't afford much though) and have ordered this from the sale....

Love that jacket!

Chunky knitwear is everywhere recently. Also sparkly knitwear. Military style jacket or coat. Skinny jeans or thick jeggins. I've recently bought some mid calf length biker style boots. They're flat so very comfortable and suitable for snowy/icy weather but also very stylish.

Newmum and I are telling you the same things :-)

You sound like a stunner, you can prob get away with anything. Just avoid the wet-look PU leggings, they are not going to look good on anyone

Thanks tak1ing and NewMum you are definitely echoing each other...so it MUST be right :)
Have chunky knit, boucle jacket, skinnies in maybe burgundy, sparkly knit and some bikerish boots on my list. Already have an old vintage VW military coat, glad to see fashion has caught up with me again!

Hugely disappointed I can't wear the wet look leggings though!!! Grin
