Please help me justify buying a Peony & Moore 'Lucia' bag

I love bags, but need to be sensible with money.
I have used the same M & S leather satchel bag for 3 years now (good quality but starting to look worn).
I would like a smart, good quality 'largish' bag (I do cart quite a bit around with me).
Have been eying up the 'Lucia' for a couple of months, especially like the new brown colour!
Anyone got one? What do you think? Worth the money?

I've got one. It's a lovely bag, very soft and luverly. I think it's worth the money but I plan on having it for years.

It's £200?. Blimey. I can't help you, I'm afraid. My handbags tend to cost around a tenner. I couldn't justify that kind of money for a ruddy bag, and can't imagine how anything could be worth that. That's my food shop for the week. However, I'm not really a 'bag' kind of lady, so I'm not the person to ask.

What I would say is that you don't really need to justify it, IMO. If you can afford it and you want one, then buy it. (But don't convince yourself it was a bargain, or worth the money Grin.....cos it's not). Tell yourself it's a treat that you deserve.

CandyLoo · 20/10/2012 14:54

Thanks for that.
Is it a good size? Hard to say I know - book, purse, phone, notepad, wipes, diary, etc. - all the usual stuff I cart around?
Would a P & M across body strap look ok with it or is it not that sort of bag?
Thanks

If you're going to use it for years and it's going to make you feel pulled together and stylish whenever you pick it up, then it's worth it! Better than buying a cheaper one that you like less and that you're going to stick in the back of the wardrobe after 6 months.

AKissIsNotAContract · 20/10/2012 14:59

If you use it every day for 2 years it works out to 27p a day, so it's a bargain.

CandyLoo · 20/10/2012 15:00

Thanks SalmonRusty, this is what i'm starting to think.
Have bought cheaper variations on things and do end up not using them.
I do think it's a lot of money for a bag, but would use it for years.

I don't have one but I think a bag is always a good thing to buy :D

Some reasons - you will wear it way more than a dress or top. It is useful. It is pretty. If it is a good quality bag it will last for years. It will make you happy.

SalmonRusty · 20/10/2012 15:06

CandyLoo I bought my most expensive bag ever last year (this Mimi Berry one) and have not regretted it once - I use it every day and it makes me happy every time!

WillSingForCake · 20/10/2012 15:13

I've got one and it's great. It was the first, and only, expensive bag I've ever owned. I use it everyday and it's still in great condition (had it about a year). It's big enough for all my bits and bobs, and I have a baby so there's always nappies/wipes etc in it too, but always fits everything in.

I think Peony & Moore sometimes do discount codes? Might be worth keeping the eyes out for one.

DonaAna · 20/10/2012 15:22

My concern with the Lucia would be that it represents a style that was very popular some years ago and is no longer very fashionable. Handbags are not as classic as one would think - I have several great quality bags that just look too dated languishing somewhere in the back shelves. If you want something a bit more current, go for a simpler shape.

Thanks for that code!

I just bought the Peony & Moore Mariella and i love it as it has the across body strap which the Lucia does not. I liked the Lucia for the pockets etc, but the Mariella has 2 pockets on the back and some inside too..as well as the cross body strap, which I need.

I dithered for ages over it as it was a similar price, but I'm so chuffed with it, it was worth every penny.Smile

GobblersKnob · 20/10/2012 16:29

I agree with DonaAna and think the Lucia looks quite dated. The Mariella is beautiful and far more classic. My Mum had a similar bag 30 years ago, it's far more simple.

nowrinklesonamelon · 20/10/2012 16:58

I bought the black Lucia last year -- and I would say Classic not dated. A very Lovely bag and I have mine out again this year as I love it!Smile

madammecholet · 20/10/2012 22:22

I've got the Lucia and I love it... Smile the brown looks gorg.

applecrumbleandcream · 20/10/2012 23:44

I bought a large tan leather Fossil Maddox satchel last year from Cheshire Oaks outlet and love it....it had a really good reduction and I got it for around £85. Try the outlet shops if you have one close enough, they had loads of really gorgeous leather bags at Cheshire Oaks when I went a couple of weeks ago.
