Is there a modern equivalent? If so which brand?

besame cosmetics are a company specialising in reproduced vintage makeup reworked with more modern ingredients. They have a fab range of authentic war time reds

OhDearSpareHeadTwo · 16/10/2012 00:52

never thought someone would come out with that one before me emBOOsa !!

EmBOOsa · 16/10/2012 00:56

Hehe, I adore Besame. If I want to really treat myself I splurge on one of their products. More people should know about them!

OhDearSpareHeadTwo · 16/10/2012 01:00

and their wearing power is soooo much better than any of the other brands :) and the packaging so priddy !!!

EmBOOsa · 16/10/2012 01:03

Oh yes, I've got red velvet and portrait pink and they stay wonderfully!

SorrelForbes · 16/10/2012 08:45

What a lovely website. I'd never heard of Besame so will be doing some ordering!

Oooh, how long does the Besame lipstick stay put and does it transfer?

notMarlene · 16/10/2012 09:25

Should have said, I use Mabaline 24 hour in Red Passion - they do some other great colours too. It's a fabulous colour, matte, stays put all day (as a general rule), doesn't transfer and isn't drying. But, it's 15 euros a tube and I wear red every day - one lasts me about 6 weeks so I fancy trying something else. It's a hard act to follow but I think even the most pricey lipsticks are going to work out more cost effective.

Don't mind it being a faff to put on but it does need to stay totally and utterly put.

EmBOOsa · 16/10/2012 11:36

I find Besame stays put most of the day, there are definitely ways of making it stay put longer. I always use lip liner all over my lips, then blot, apply lipstick with a brush, then blot, apply again, and blot once more. At which point it pretty much doesn't shift.

Pandsbear · 16/10/2012 14:51

Another one for Besame - lovely lipsticks! Also recently purchased a Kate Moss/Rimmel one which is a good dense flat red and in fact is the only lipstick I've ever worn that caused a random woman to come up to ask me where it was from.

If you're ever in Shepherds Bush look for PAM shop (Goldhawk Mews
London) and the Julie Hewett (makeup artist famously for Pearl Harbour) and the Film Noir collection.
