I am naturally a dark blonde, and last time I went to the hairdressers, I went brown all over with light blonde highlights. I want to go back blonde though now, and can't afford hairdressers with the C word being around the corner. So, I stripped my hair myself, which has took the dark brown out, but left the blonde highlights. So, so I have no roots, I went and bought a hair lightener kit and was going to bang it on all over (it says to leave it on for 60-90 minutes, but I don't want it that light, so was thinking 40 minutes?) but now I am worried that the highlights will go orange or something.

Anyone have a clue whether it will be safe? Or how I can get around this issue myself? It is the roots from the highlights I want to hide. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hmmm not sure about that... Is there a beauty college near you - they often have student days and they could do it for you for next to nothing or a student night at a hairdressers?
