Dear NL, i'd really apprecitate it if you could give them my feedback. i am 6 foot 2, and i struggle in there... the quality of the fabrics they use is awful. the seams and stiching are shockingly bad, things fall apart. jumpers are horrible synthetic material which bobbles. its wildly expensive for the quality. the styles are so out of date. the shoes are out of date - tall people dont want big heels!! things are badly cut and unflattering.
i want to come with you, i could go on and on...

The quality sounds awful now! Last thing I bought was years ago and even then it was over priced!

I am disappointed that at one time they were the only company catering for Tall Ladies (especially when i was younger, before internet shopping - only 39 btw) but they didn't seem to take advantage of it.

I am looking forward to going to see them.

A few things, NL

MIL is 6 foot 1. She really struggles for coats. She wants a basic black coat covering her bum that is warm and practical (casual). Rather like the quilted down coat which is priced at £175. That is way too much for a coat and she would like a basic version of this. I would too. There is too much stuff like this with premium prices and not enough proper basics. MIL will elect to go without or wear a knackered old coat rather than have to pay £175. So will I.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw the new dressing gown (star print superfluffy) had to be HANDWASHED! That is unacceptable, not to mention the price tag at £55 is too much for a dressing gown.

Agree also that there are a lot of "basic" items with huge price tags. I am perfectly happy to see premium items but think that there should be affordable items as well. There were some jersey v neck basic plain t shirt tops in the summer stuff and they were £20 each. A "normal" height person can buy these at £8 for two in a place like M&S. It works out that getting these tops from LTS is five times more expensive than M&S which is a shocking premium to pay for being tall! Personally, I bought them in the sale when they were knocked down to £7 so at least I'll have something to wear next summer! I am actually wearing one of them today under a jacket.

I consider myself to be relatively well off but I cannot afford the prices. I think that LTS caters for tall rich people! I would think that the majority of customers, like me, are buying a very small number of basic items due to the price tags.

I don't buy Boden stuff but the prices of a lot of their tops are similar to LTS. Boden is a premium brand but LTS should be a more mid range brand IMO. Even at boden currently, you can buy a scoop neck long sleeved (essential) tee for only £15.

NL, Could I pass on some comments too, please?

-Too many synthetics - like most places at the moment. But if the likes of Uniqlo, Gap and sometimes M&S can sell decently priced Merino and Cashmere sweaters, why can't LTS? (says she currently in an above-the-wrist length Pure cashmere sweater....)

-Unhemmed trousers. Please please please. I am 35" so 34" is usually too short and 36" too long.

-More XS and size 8. Some of us are tall and skinny and would love e.g. a summer maxi skirt that was long enough and fitted around the waist. The two I bought two years ago were soon too big around the waist (and thus too long) once I lost the baby weight. Thankfully Fat Face came up trumps.

-Yes, to cheapish long-sleeved jersey tops. It's really hard to find ones that are long enough! I don't mind paying for the occasional premium one from IO but would love a regular basic range in a decent selection of colours.

I am not really fashionable, but i find LTS geared towards over 50s (like it has grown old with its customers, like Laura Ashley has). I rememeber visiting their shop in Bath 20 years ago (when I was 20) and liking lots of things. LTS now, to me, seems to target the over 50 woman who does not want to look sexy or stylish. Sorry!

Also, they use too much synthetic stuff.

Polyester and Acrylic are really out, IMO

(I buy tunics and dresses at White Company and Mint Velvet, which often suit tall girls, and skinnies at DP)

Out of interest...where do you buy clothes? it would be interesting to see just how much money they are missing out on!

Mine come from a mix of TopShop Tall, DP, odd bit of New Look and Next Tall. I tend to put up with slightly short arm length and buy most tops from H&M (although I noticed the other day, I'm actually buying dresses & wearing as t-shirts).

I tend to not buy long sleeved t-shirts/tops. I buy sleeveless or short sleeved and wear cardigans over them in winter. I think it is easier to buy cardigans with longer lenth sleeves than tops/t-shirts, although you have to shop around.

I can't believe how few shops have a tall range, and that range is normally miniscule, in comparison to the number of shops selling petite ranges.

i find the only place to get decent long trousers is Zara, i used to persevere with LTS trousers but they never fitted right. Topshop and DP are good for tall jeans. that's about my entire wardrobe!

Blardy hell, Octavia's top is hideous. I'm only a bit tall, so can shop in normal shops but my sister is 6ft1" and she does an annual trek to Holland, where they seem to have more tall people & she finds buying clothes much easier. Not sure that is an option for most people - but it might be worth LTS looking at where the Dutch retailers get their clothes from.

of my tall family:

MIL shops at New Look tall. She would buy more LTS if nice basics and reasonably priced.

SIL dorothy perkins + a lot of shopping around to locate things that are in ordinary ranges of lots of shops but happen to come out a bit longer (I personally cannot be bothered to do this). She has got suits from LTS. She would buy more from LTS if it was a bit more fashionable.

I have some stuff from M&S which is too short in the legs or arms but since it is from their basic, reasonably priced, easily washable stuff, I put up with the fact that it's too short. In an ideal world, I'd like my entire wardrobe to contain LTS and nothing else. I would buy from there if there were more basic reasonably priced items.

Different tall people have different clothing problems. MIL has very long legs. I have a very long body. SIL has both. So tall people like MIL can afford to get tops from ordinary shops because although they would be better from LTS, since most of her length is in her legs, she can get away with other tops and gets lots in Primark and TKMAXX.

I reckon though with the prices at LTS as high as they are that an annual trip to Holland would be a very feasable alternative. I want to do this but have never done it. Are there specific shops in Holland to go to?

One of my current gripes with LTS is their strange need to make their work wear models look like porn star librarians here complete with glasses, stupid poses and 'just waiting to be let free' hair. The catalogue is even worse and makes me cringe.

I am 5' 11" and mainly shop in NEXT Tall and New Look Tall which is much more reasonable priced than LTS. I bought a maxi dress in LTS sale in a size 12 and it was absolutely HUGE. Had to spend another £30 to get it adjusted twice as it was SO big. I won't be buying from there again.

I get quite a lot from Jigsaw as their cut tends to suit my height and shape. Also Isabella Oliver, Uniqlo (for knitwear), DP and the occasional dress from Boden and Next Tall. I guess I shop around a lot - would hate to buy everything from one shop - but would love a go-to shop for good quality tall basics. At the moment, though, LTS is too frumpy, ££ and not cut right for me.

Its horrible being tall, limited choice, end up dressing like my nan, and horribly expensive.. FI.. just looked at your LTS link and saw some PJ's i quite liked, price inc £4.95 delivery is £64.95!!

I stopped going to LTS years ago. When I first discovered them - probably 20 odd years ago, they had loads of stuff I would happily wear.
The last time I looked, I couldn't see a single thing I wanted. I am not too tall - 5'10 but I am a lard arse - size 20ish.
Holland is great for fat giants . You don't need to go to a special shop either. C+A for example have different lengths.
To the poster who is visiting them, ask for more natural fabrics. I can't stand man made fibres.

I'm 6'2 and get my jeans from gap in the mens section. All my length in in my legs so can usu get tops from Sainsburys etc. not a posh dresser!

Thing is, if you're tall the last thing you want is treetops on your top. Stick on brown leggings and I'd look like the high canopy in the rainforest

ThingsThatGoBump - I've bought a few things from Tallgirls, but I have found their sizes a bit hit and miss (like LTS really) and they don't change their stock very often. Some of the stuff on the site currently seems to have been their site for a couple of years now.

Has anyone found anywhere to get tall swimwear from? I usually wear a tankini but the gap between top and bottoms is too much. I've tried swimsuits and tankinis from next tall range, but they are built like tanks and look horrible on - too much padding. I'm not keen on any of the swimsuits on LTS or Tallgirls.
