Stylish clothes - teenager

Hi, I will never need to post here for myself because I am a social worker and have a style all of my own Grin Grin

Anyhoo my 15 year old daughter has decided on work experience in a rather upmarket hair salon, which makes me a little Sad and her extremely Smile and excited.

At her interview today she was told to read the fashion magazines and that she must look stylish every day and no jeans. She basically lives in jeans/Jack Wills rip off type stuff.

She will be there for 5 days (Tues to Sat) and hopes to make a good impression and be taken on as a Saturday girl so wants a new look every day. Eeek. She also needs shoes in this price as only owns converse, hi-tops and uggs.

She is 5ft 9 and a size 8 with the type of physique that can onle be gained by doing 9 hours of dancing a week Envy

I am poor just now as my DP recently lost his job and have a small child in costly nursery (while he jobhunts). I am telling you this sad backstory to explain why I can't spend more than £100 on a shopping trip to purchase said 'stylish' wardrobe. I do want her to succeed in this as she is so excited and we have had a tough year or two and she has been a wee star.

Can any of you stylish beauties help? I have told her I am posting and will show her. Thank you in advance... Smile

dd who is 15 did work exp in an office earlier this year - we raided primark for

tailored trousers - we got some grey slightly wide legged style
knee length black skirt
nice tops - t shirt style but not with logos more floral with nice necklines bows etc
loads of cardis - diff styles and colours

peacocks were good too

I can see why they want their staff to look professional and stylish, but it's a but cheeky to be so specific to a work experience student IMVHO, especially one who is only there for 5 days.

Does she have any school trousers she could wear with some nice trendy tops?

Hi all, thanks for tips so far. I think my dd was perhaps over-egging it a little as I wasn't at the interview! However, I want her to look the part as it is really important to her. She has suggested docking her pocket money so she could pay me back!

I think shorts/tights is great idea as that could work for more than one day with different tops etc. I will also be delighted to get her out of the jeans/uggs anyway :)

So Primark, New Look, Peacocks!

Shorts and tights / leggings and wee floaty dresses / skirts maybe? A couple of cardis and plain vests / t shirts that she could wear a couple of days, with the shorts and then with a skirt. If she has scarves or jewellery she could dress up or down based on what others are wearing.

Plain black pumps will do as footwear and should be fine for every day if she's trying not to spend too much.

Thanks OMFG and Celtic. Yes, one pair of shoes and converse other days perhaps... Shorts, a dress, some cardis.

Shopping on Sat, I think. I would send her with friends as I HATE shopping, especially with her, so might send her with my best pal who loves to shop and is pretty stylish...

I've noticed that most hairdressing staff wear head to toe black, and especially like black leggings with a long slinky top of some kind.. They tend to do minimalist, trendy and slinky rather than vintage/floaty/prints, iykwim.

Definitely stick with sleek and minimalist - you so rarely see hairdressers in OTT flouncy styles.

Leggings/long flowing top
shorts and tights with same long top tucked in
skinny black trousers with simple black tshirt and chunky accessories
same tshirt and accessories with shorts and tights
And black ankle boots to wear with every single outfit (make sure they are comfy and not too high),

H&M and Primark for the lot, New Look for boots. Job done.

Raid her wardrobe first for anything that might be appropriate paired with skinny black trousers for work and for accessories.

Also it depends on the salon, can you go past and have a look at what the others wear? Or look it up?
