Wanted chunky knit, good quality, not overly expensive

I've been really ill recently and so have decided I need some grown up clothes. Scantily clad "winter" clothes are going in the bin and I'm investing in some clothes to keep me warm. I can't seem to find any chunky knits though, I'm looking for something that covers my bum or hangs mid-bum-length. Am a size 16 and looking to spend about £20 but will spend £40 for something better quality but I can't find anything. Everything looks thin or like it's going to fall apart. I was in Primark the other day buying socks and it seems to be the only place to sell chunky knits but I don't want to resign myself to that yet because I don't believe they'll actually do the job of keeping me warm. Anyone seen anything beautiful?

Have you looked at warehouse - they have lots of lovely knitwear, that's just an example (covers bum!).

I also have a 20% off code for full price Warehouse items, code 20GLAMOUR if anyone is interested! Valid until 7th Oct.

Ok, I'll probably get thrown out of here, but have you tried M&S??? I got a great long knitted cardigan a few weeks ago, available in a range of colours (I got the navy) which I've already worn loads. Not chunky but great over a dress, thinner jumper etc. I'm sure they have chunky ones too!

Might also get thrown out of here for this suggestion but what about Woolovers? Reasonably priced - you'd definitely get something for under £40 - and natural fibres.

They sent me a catalogue today and I noticed various chunky Arran and Guernsey knits that might fit the bill for you.

Well Next have got a few

I tried on a nice mustard chunky one with zip detail at the back, but size wise it was a bit scrimpy so a couple of sizes up prob best.

I was looking at a really nice jumper/dress in Matalan. Think it was £22, very heavy and long.

ToastedTeacakes · 03/10/2012 13:46

Have a look at Asos too. I was trawling the knitwear section last night and spotted several chunky jumpers, some even containing lambswool, etc.

And Uniqlo offer lambswool at the moment, again under £40.

My advice? Avoid Topshop.

I had a browse around matalan last night and bought a really lovely chunky cream roll neck. It is very oversized style but cut well so doesn't look over big. I love it, it was £28. I don't usually shop in there but they had some lovely and reasonably priced knitwear.

Spookey80 · 03/10/2012 20:19

It Definately covers your bum too.

Dollydowser · 03/10/2012 20:42

Several thinner layers keep in the heat much more effectively than one thick layer. Just saying.

There were some nice chunky knits on Very the other day. I would link, but I can't get it to get rid of my name from the top of the screen!

netbook · 03/10/2012 21:02

Definitely look in matalan. They have chunky jumpers that cover your bum!

theidsalright · 03/10/2012 21:02

so I came on to try and link to the two really lovely jumpers I saw in M&S today (one of the big ones) but the website is abysmal!!! Nothing looks good there and I can't find the jumpers....but they do have some really chic, warm and under or at £40 jumpers.

CrystalEclipse · 03/10/2012 21:13

{whispers in embaressed voice} Tescos have some lovely chunky knit cardigans that are long and perfect for throwing over everything from dresses to jeans and vneck jumpers. Mine from last year (only £12) has washed really well too.

I'm a great fan of layering when cold (eg thermals, vest top, light weight jumper, chunky knit)
