How do you cut your hair for a messy bun?

I've started wearing my hair up because I'm currently living somewhere very hot.

I haven't cut my hair for over 6 months and the ends are needing doing but my question is do I get it layered or all the same length? I like the messyness of wispy bits. What do you do?

If you get your hair cut to the same length then it is harder to turn your hair in a bun as it finishes at the same point. If you get it cut with layers, you'll retain wispy bits and its easier to put up in a bun or with clip but you will have bits come out which can be annoying in very hot climates.

Just don't get the layers too short. Long enough to get back into a bun would be neck length perhaps- for the shortest layers.

Thanks both. What you are saying makes perfect sense!
