casual but stylish work trousers?

I have just started a new job as a TA in a primary school and I really, really need some new work trousers. The dress code is as you'd imagine smart/casual and practical, i.e no jeans but no business suits! So far I've been wearing tunics/dresses and leggings most days, but I have plenty of nice tops/cardis that I would usually wear with skinny jeans, if only I could find trousers to wear them with...

Tbh I've been living in jeans or leggings for so long I have no idea what else is out there!

I'm a reception teacher and struggle with this too. I wear dresses and tights, tunics and leggings and have ended up wearing linen trousers which I hate, during the summer because I can't find other nice trousers. I sometimes wear chinos but now the weather is getting colder you end up with the old sock/shoe dilemma.

I've got a couple of pairs from H&M, mostly chino style but not too smart.

Chinos or cords? Gap have some good colourful cords which would look good with a shirt or cardi.

ivykaty44 · 16/09/2012 20:59

problem I find with cords is they go saggy at the knees Sad

Gap do good, comfortable, low maintenance, hard wearing Chino/'suit' trousers - @ £30, I think. Good value.

White Stuff is good for these kind of trousers. I have a similar dress code at work, different field, and seem to get a lot of trousers from White Stuff.

SharpObject · 16/09/2012 21:17

Coast are great for trousers, pricey but last for ages and are hard wearing.

I bought some black jeggings from Dorothy Perkins yesterday to wear at work , I teach reception so am always on the floor. These are lovely and stretchy and not too tight fitting, they were £23.

How about something like this www.kookai.co.uk/collection-1/trousers-shorts/pantalon-7-8-en-draperie-compacte.html

Ooh, I watch X Factor and all of a sudden lots of replies! Hmm, is chino style straight legged? We have a gap outlet nearby, I should have a look.

I do have some wide legged linen trousers from White Stuff, but I find I can only wear quite fitted tops with them, or I look like a bag lady!

Charliefox, I do like those cropped trousers actually, not a look I would normally go for, but it could work!

I have these and they are very comfy and smart at the same time. Little zip on the ankle is a nice touch These

Uniqlo can be good for cords and other trousers,. pretty cheap too.
