I need a red lipstick, but everyone I try looks too garish, I have olive skin, brown eyes and blonde hair (well grey, with white streaks Grin)

Or am I too old for red stick at 53 [sob]

You are definitely not too old!

It helps sometimes to try a warm (yellow) based red (Like Mac So Chaud or Chilli) and a cool (blue) based red (I think the rouge allure linked above is cool, from the image, and Mac Russian Red is too I think). One will look better than the other. Find more of the better one and try variations on the shade to get the perfect one.

I have heard lots of times that Mac Ruby Woo is a 'true' red (neither warm nor cool) but my sister wears it and I am convinced it is cool.

I think Bobbi Brown's Burnt Red is lovely for warm/olive skin tones. It has an orangey rusty tone while still being definitely red.

I'm olive - I wear Mac Hot Tahiti. Not bright red, slightly darker and it's fairly sheer. You can build it up for denser colour.

I think you have to try a few - I have olivey skin but with a cool undertone so I need something with a blue base, burgundy rather than pillar box and definitely not with any hint of orannge but my friend with olive skin suits the opposite

burgundy, berry and brick reds tend to suit olive skins the best.
