If you work in a classroom what do you wear?

I am going to be helping out at the school. Just 1 afternoon a week at the minute. It will be either in the library helping children pick and change their books or in the classroom, listening to reading, helping with maths etc. It's an infant school so will probably do lots of sitting on the floor.

I really want to be a teaching assistant in the future and I'd like to make a good impression. Both the DS's go there so I know lots of the staff and I am always in jeans and trainers.

I want to look smart but be comfortable at the same time. Also I need shoes recommendations for something that is very comfy.

Thank you.

I usually wear a dress, as that is what I wear out of school too.
In the winter they are teamed with tights and boots.
In the warmer months I have longer dresses and then ballet pump type shoes, sometimes sandals.

Oh - and occassionally long tunics with leggings - again with boots or shoes depending on weather.

If i was you I'd wear-

The comfiest suit trousers I could find from Next. (comfy means can sit on floor with them).

A t-shirt and a smartish round neck jumper.

With flat shoes and minimal jewellery.

I work in a school and our dress code is 'what you would expect to wear in an office'. However, you don't sit on the floor very often in an office so mindful of that, I'd agree with Hulababy with the tunic/leggings - it's not jeans, you look as if you've made an effort and yet if you sit on the floor you won't ruin a good suit. Hope this helps!

I am a TA. We are expected to be fairly smart - no denim . Most people wear smart trousers and nice top (Sainsburys clothes good for work) and flat shoes.

I might ask DS1's old teacher for ideas as the headteacher just said whatever I am comfy in but none of the teachers ever wear jeans etc unless they are going on a school trip.

She was usually always in a dress and leggings last year and this years teacher is mainly in smart trousers and a smart top.
