Avid and Wise for non trendsetters?

BombusBombus · 09/09/2012 08:10

I'd like to start an Avid and Wise style thread for people who don't want to/can't afford to wear designer labels, but who are still interested in what they wear without being a style maven.

My style is a little bit alternative. I love vintage and vintage style, DMs and Campers and bright colours. At the moment I shop in great plans, fat face and h & m.

I would rather make a fashion mistake sometimes than wear dull clothes.

What have you spotted for Autumn?

Count me in! I love clothes but prefer things that are a bit different- interesting patterns etc. I don't have a huge budget and love a bargain too! am looking for knitwear as struggle every year! Just bought some uniqlo cords in brown and purple (it's like a return to the 90s!) but very short on nice tops and knitwear. Have you checked out Esprit and Yumi? will post some links later

Great idea! I'm in. I've just bought the ostrich cardi in cream from Next, it's lovely. I'm not a huge Next fan but this has rave reviews so I went for it. (Can't link, soz.)

I also have a fab Zara gondolier top I am currently wearing to death.

I've sold my FitFlops, they kiled my feet and actually, didn't look great on me either.

Onwards & upwards!

SloeFarSloeGood · 09/09/2012 09:55

I just bought one of these

I love real leather, especially hand made stuff.

I've also bought a pair of the uniqlo cords in grey, and the orangey red Orla kiely dress.

They have some great modal/cotton tops for layering in Sainsburys.

Anyone know where to get scoop neck high wool content jumpers?

lurkingfromhome · 09/09/2012 10:16

I have bought the famous uniqlo skinny cords in cream and in grey for a/w but not quite sure what to wear on top. A simple cashmere jumper looks great on the models but I need something longer to cover the old tum. Haven't yet found anything that floats my boat but have been looking at the ostrich stuff in next.

Me - I don't wear designer stuff other than my lovely Vivienne Westwood items and I am too broke to buy any more of those now.

I like the W&A ladies a lot but most of the stuff they link to is either way out of my league, price-wise, or not suitable for me and my life style - there is no way on this earth I will ever wear white jeans or leather leggings, for example.

So far for Autumn I have bought a black pencil skirt for work and a more casual red one for weekends. I will be wearing my beloved chocolate brown biker jacket as soon as the weather cools down and I have some lovely tan heeled ankle boots from last year. I'd like some grey ones but the only pair I've seen that I liked were nearly 400 squid, so will not be appearing on my feet any time soon, sadly.

I'm also on the look out for a really nice, slightly slouchy grey jumper and a scarf which looks like a cobweb, as well as lots more tops for wearing with skinnies - in shades of grey, burgundy or another colour which I haven't decided yet!

I will be buying more of the M&S thermal layering tops when the weather gets colder - and lots of lovely cashmere mix tights.

Does the ostrich cardigan shed

SloeFarSloeGood · 09/09/2012 12:26

Cobwebs scarf Do you mean like this

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/09/2012 14:22

That's pretty - thank you. I find wool too itchy though - used to have a beautiful grey cobwebby scarf but I got rid of it for that reason. I want a fabric one, possibly silk, in grey, really light and delicate.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 09/09/2012 14:53

Good idea for a thread Smile Occasionally buy designer but I'm probably a bit too Avid and less so Wise to be doing that too often Wink

I've bought a few great things in Primark recently such as a couple of stripy shrunken sweatshirts (blue and white/ grey and white) to be worn over long tees and with skinnies. They are super soft and look great on. £6

Also some berry coloured skinnies £11

A few long sleeve layering t shirts £4

I also really rate New Look jewellery and have recently bought this for wearing with plain tees and jeans.

I also need some new smart dresses for work WITH SLEEVES

I'm also after a navy lace pencil skirt for work and some new shoeboots for work (grey probably) and some jalouse-eque ankle boots. And some winter scarves. And a couple of casual jackets. And a new work handbag.

TheBrianRogersConnection · 09/09/2012 17:22

I've only worn my ostrich cardi once but I don't think it's a shedder.
