Anyone know if WhatKatieDid bullet bras are pointier than the Triumph Doreen?

And, if the WKD bras give a flatter shape in the outside of the breast than the Doreen?

I tried a doreen the other day and the pointedness was nice but there was way too much bulk on the outside of me norks, I'm broad shouldered and slim hipped and that always looks horrendous on me, adds a dress size or two.

I'm a 32E if that's relevant.

My sister wear WKD bras and has tried others. She blogs at tuppencehapennyvintage.blogspot.com, you could leave her a comment asking, she's v helpful and not weirded out by random lingerie questions Grin

auldspinster · 08/09/2012 22:56

I love my Doreen and the pointy norks it gives me.

MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 00:23

Thanks!

Love your sister's blog hopefully. She doesn't seem to reply to comments from what I've seen so I don't think I'll bother her.

Just wish I could talk to someone who has tried both.

I'd have to have a black doreen - my gran used to wear the white and it'd be too odd to have her bra on. The only black ones I can find are 42 euros (compared to 30 for beige tones and white Hmm) bizarrely that makes good old doreen more expensive than the WKD ones. From my extensive study of google images I think the WKD ones come a bit lower than the doreen and that'd be a plus. But, I'm torn, both would need to be ordered online and so there's postage to consider. I know the doreen fits, but it's not perfect. The WKD is prettier, possibly less likely to poke out of scoop necks and cheaper but a punt.

Doreens are pretty useless with low cut tops. I'm so wedded to my non wired bras that I almost never wear underwired ones now cos they're not as comfy.

hellymelly · 09/09/2012 12:58

I love the doreen, but it doesn't fit me, (I am a 30FF) a couple of decades ago when I was a 30E, or probably more like a 28F, I did buy a Doreen and try to alter it with my sewing machine but it didn't work. Agee the WKD ones look more pointy but I haven't tried them as they don't make my size.

hellymelly · 09/09/2012 13:02

Oh should add that the WKD bras come in an E which is actually a DD, as they go from D to E, so might be too small in the cup for you anyway.

hellymelly · 09/09/2012 13:14

have checked the website and some styles do now seem to come in an E.

MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 13:20

Yeah, they go to a F in a lot of styles actually (so an E in normal sizing). I'm pretty sure the doreen does come in your size though, I thought it went to a G.

Doreen starts at a 32 back, too big for me. The larger cup sizes were only available in a 34 for years but maybe they have changed that now.

MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 13:52

Silly buggers!

This is a reasonably vintage shape, properly seperated but not so pointy. More an early 60's shape. Might be the closest you can get...

Have you tried Playtex Cross Your heart bras? They give good pointiness too.

MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 19:08

Ooh, I had a look at those (something else I can only get on line). I'd only looked at a few photos and thought they were really round. Thanks for the tip, I'll have a better look.

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 19:12

Looking good! Would you say they're less bulgy on the outside of the cup than the doreen?

OP posts:
auldspinster · 09/09/2012 19:34

I've had the m+s versions and they were flatter on the sides, lower cut too. I've got the dreaded side boobs cos I'm a fattie but am also broad shouldered and narrow hipped.

MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 19:48

Mmm, well, I ordered a couple of the WKD ones earlier to try but I can't help wondering if they'll be too extreme in shape, the level of support is obviosly an issue too.

Norks were going nowhere in the doreen, felt fantastic! is the cross your heart similarly rigid in it's support? The only other non-wired bras I've had on were feeding bras and my frontage totally overruled any ideas they might have had about shaping or support...

OP posts:
auldspinster · 09/09/2012 19:55

Yeah, they're cut lower on the sides, the cut's a lot more triangular than the doreen but not as stylised as the wkd bras.

MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 19:59

and (sorry to pick your brain so much) I came across these and these how do they look to your experienced eye in terms of pointedness and support?

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 20:10

Oh, x post. Am having wifi problems. Thanks - the doreen is too high under the arms. I'm short and my breast base is quite high. The playtex is sounding very interesting!

marriednotdead · 09/09/2012 20:17

The Freya Dotty is quite pointy, the cup fabric is rigid.

MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 20:27

That's very pretty. HellyMelly, take note it comes in your size! Not sure if I can get Freya over here but I'll have a look...

MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 20:38

Oh heck, freya is way too pricey for me!

OP posts:
auldspinster · 09/09/2012 20:53

The two you linked to look a lot like doreens with the circular boob stitching and might cause the same problem. I've got a couple of Glamorise bras I got off ebay that give good pointiness too.

MrsLettuce · 09/09/2012 21:09

You're a great help auldspinster. Bless you!

Is this the glamorise or were they vintage? Like the look of those! Comes up at the same price as the black doreen which is my official maximum budget.

I'm only finding small cups and to a d cup in the lovely playtex (which is top favourite ATM, I think) but I'm keeping looking. If I'd just have held off ordering the WKDs...

OP posts:
auldspinster · 09/09/2012 23:21

That's the one, think it's called magic lift, you can get em much cheaper on ebay.

MrsLettuce · 10/09/2012 08:55

thanks so much for your help! I'll let you know how I get on.
