Red hair with white bits coming - what do I do

Everyone has always thru my life commented on my dark red hair - something of a trade mark but white bits are now coming through quite a bit and I am pulling them out but cannot keep on top. Anyone any advice on what to do. Could go for a complete new colour but what about highlights 0 -what would go with dark red hair? Anyone any views/experience??

go grey gracefully? Wink

i have auburn hair and thats what i intend to do...

Why not just get the hairdresser to match your natural colour and put it over the top of the white if you don't like it? Seems a shame to change colour now just because of this.

Norah · 16/03/2006 20:12

Don't pull them out - believe me - they grow back coarser and stick up - so you end up with sticky up white bits !!

Think Franny's idea is best - could even try and match a home kit to your natural colour. I have done this for a few years (I'm dark blonde) and it has worked fine - you just have to find the right shade.

I am in the same situation I could have written your post!I have always harped on about how lovely grey hair is elegant etc blah blah but when I got a couple I freaked and pulled them out.I hate the way they stand apart from the other hairs almost antagonising me Vain moi?I have found it hard to get a dye to cover them tbh they still stayed white

I am 28 and have already started finding the odd silver hairSad. I was horrified the first time it happened, I cried... now I just pull them out and forget about them. It's still only the odd hair, I'll be gutted if my whole head turns grey!

You can always tell if old ladies used to have red hair because it goes silver, not grey. It won't look grey because there is so little black pigment in red hair. I would have hilights of strawberry blonde put in to hide the silver.

motherinferior · 17/03/2006 14:52

Nah, mine is definitely grey. Not silver, not white, grey. I look like Miss Havisham. On a good day.

agree with MT

I find my grey hairs utterly repellant and pay hundreds of pounds to have them dyed out

annoyingly my hair is a mix of blonde and brown so impossible to dye all over, I have to have V EXPENSIVE highlights

If I had dark red hair I would dye it all over. My friend has and does and alwasy looks v glam.
