Do straighteners for - erm- curling really have to be GHDs?

Was hoping to spend less but wondered if they really are the best?

Ghd's are good curlers if you can use them correctly takes a bit of practise but they are super easy to use afterwards and curls stay in much longer than any other curlers i have used! Im a hairdresser!

Can you try a "GHD curling tutorial post" Xmas? Been trying unsuccessfully to do this since the hairdresser did it with my hair ages ago...

I don't use GHDs but my bog standard straighteners seem to work well.

My dd has GHD's for straightening her hair but uses her £4.99 slimline straighteners from B&M Bargains for doing curls.
