I love these boots but....

They are too much money because we are having an expensive few months. Have you seen anything in the shops/online that might be a cheaper alternative for me?

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

1. Enough of a heel to not be flat but still fairly low and chunky to make chasing around after toddlers practical
2. They cut off quite low on the ankle so show off my slim ankles rather than cutting off on my chunky calf which is v unflattering for me

3.Choice of dark brown or black, happy with either 4.Doesn't have a silly pointed toe

1. Very comfy

6.Quite a petite boot, don't look silly on me. I'm an 8 and not very tall and some boots look massive on me.

Oh, its hopeless. Its going to be a winter of unrequited boot-love isn't it?

These are the closest I've found but have a heel that I will teeter off whilst toddler herding. Humpf.

If it helps my last pair of next boots were very poor quality and fell apart. Winter boot fail!

Have you seen the Top Shop Ambush boots? They have a zip rather than the elastic, but are cheaper at £45. Based on the Acne Pistols.

Hang on, I think they have been reduced to £35, but are out of stock online. You could ring round some stores if they fit the bill, they seem to cover off all of your points in the first post....

ceeveebee I like the Agatha ASOS ones, but would like a higher heel, just a little higher. Good price though.

LeChat I like the look of the Ambush boots, think they might be slightly higher on the ankle but it doesn't look like there is much in it. Have just done a store stock check online and there are none in the 5 stores nearest to my postcode so that might be a dead end.

I found these on ASOS but they are not a dark enough brown and I'm not sold on the black version.

I think I must be asking for the impossible. There must be a shop I have forgotten about that has THE perfect boot for me. Just need to think of it!

Toast I like the look of those, they are a nice shade of brown. I have a Matalan near me so I might go and check them out tomorrow.

I think Matalan are the ones to beat - never thought I'd say that!

Kaumana I've had the Aggie before and returned them. I like them but the heel was that bit too high and they came that bit too far up my ankle so they went back.

Found these on M&S childrens, wish they were dark brown, seem to have decided against black.

Ok, so no Ambush left, but they do have some Mighty black boots at £45? My friend bought some Saturday and wore them with skinny jeans, looked v v nice.

Do like the Mighty ones, so my places to go are now TopShop, Matalan and Tesco. Its like the sublime to the ridiculous!
